thats a ludicrous statment.....atherton was averaging 40 odd right until his 84th test match. quite an achievment for an opener given that he played half his games in england, what was then the most seamer friendly place in the world along with the fact that he played in an era with absolutely no support, often having the additional pressure of holding the batting together, especially as captain.his last 3 series, turned out very poor indeed, and his averaged dropped by nearly 2 runs.
hussain on the other hand was a classic underachiever. its the 'what could have been' that is valid for him. however hussain was definetly worth far more than what his average suggests. he wasnt a flat track bully, his performances on flat tracks suggests that he struggled on them. he played his best innings when england really needed them, certainly that makes up for any average that he may have had.
I'd say this is one of the best posts you've ever made mate.

There was not much less pressure once Clarke came out to bat. Australia didn't have a match-winning lead.
yeah, I did really understand what the other post was trying to imply either. Clarke's innings (where he ended up not out did he not!?) was valuable in a situation where Australia were trying to get as far ahead as possible. I thought he handled the pressure well and played accordingly.

I think it's ironic that the men who replaced Khan and Nehra a year ago, Balaji and Pathan, are injured today and now we're back to Khan and Nehra. Is it just going to be a never-ending cycle of injuries?

Whatever it takes!!!
I hope the cycle ends soon enough. I think the best Indian bowling line up for home conditions would be Pathan, Agarkar, Kumble and Bhajji (obviously, all of them need to be fully fit). That would mean we will have rough outside the off stump and leg stump for both types of batters and for both of our spinners. Also, I think Sourav should use himself more. I have seen him take a 6-fer on one of the dustiest Indian wickets. Although that was in a Ranji Trophy match, I still think he can be a decent part timer for India in tests.

Gillespie had the advantage of not facing the Australian attack.
I think the Indian bowling was more incisive than the Aussies' in the conditions prevailing at Chennai. Even some of the Aussie fans said that India would win easily, when I talked to them at the ground, unless McGrath produced some magic.

Yeh, but why do you call him Bhajji? Why not anything else?
Because Bhajji is part of his name 'Harbhajan'. I mean why do people call Ponting as 'Punter', Gilchrist as 'Gilly' or Martyn as 'Marto' ??

Ponting is Punter because he is known for ''punting''. Gilly from Gil christ. Marto from Mart yn.

On the topic of nicknames, why is Brett Lee called 'Binga'?
He's also sometimes called 'Bing', which I've always assumed is from 'Bing Lee', the name of an electronic store in some places around Australia.
