Yeah that's what's really stuck out. Was so surprised how little confidence he seemed to have in his own bowling in the previous test. He would've been a better wicket taking threat early in the innings than Kuhnemann imo but he didn't seem to think so.
I reckon he was probably the only Australian on the field who didn't think so as well.

The only google item I see is from 6 days ago where Ronnie Mac said Murphy managed a side strain in the 2nd test but should be fit for the 3rd. Not really sure you'd leave a tour with a side strain. Chances are you'd be fit for the last test even if it was bad enough to miss the 3rd.

The handling of the bowling isn't going to improve with Smith as captain though (and he seems to be running half the show anyway). What's Head like as captain?

Maybe he wasn’t mentally present in the match ( hope you are talking about 2nd innings) considering his mother is medical emergency.

Well Haze gets side strains and misses whole series.

Actually side strains can be pretty debilitating. I remember Ashwin got a side strain diving to stop a single off his bowling in the 2015 ODI series against RSA and Shaun Pollock on commentary basically said, if it was a side strain, you cant do anything. Just go off for a month, rest and come back. That would basically rule Murphy out of the last two tests, right?

Not according to the article I read. And this from the famed cricket addictor site! Ronnie Mac calls it a slight niggle picked up in the last test and the timeframe before the next test should see him recover. Still no story of him leaving, either way.

Yeah it could be a lesser level one and obviously there is no other news about him leaving and GS Kohli has been shown to jump the gun based on rumors before when it comes to such "news".

But I meant if it was a side strain, would it even make sense to play him if he is going to less than 100%?

Either way, looks like there will be only few changes from both sides again.

Starc for Cummins, Green for Warner/Renshaw - Australia

Hopefully Gill for Rahul - India

I don't think it's a given he will. I hope he is right though as I was just looking at our squad on cricinfo. We have Boland Starc Green Lyon and Murphy. Starc and Green are just coming back and Murphy has some kind of injury. If any are ruled out that leaves Kuhnemann and Morris. I wish we'd flown in Neser when Cummins decided not to return. I wouldn't like to debut Morris in these conditions.

Swepson is back as well.

yeah worst case, you will play Swepson for Murphy. Really think at least in terms of balance, it will still be a decent attack.

Australia last game were very similar to India in Adelaide in the 2020 test. The thing is, I just think the Aussie batting is still mostly the same and prone to collapses. I said it even during the BG series in 2020/21.

Ah ok. Cricinfo still has him down as withdrawn player. They also say the last update on the squad was 11 Jan but have Cummins down as withdrawn, which I'm sure came after that date.

Funny thing about Swepson is that he increases the number in the squad but not the options, imo.
