*Official* Australia in India 2023

I don't get why those Jadeja dismissals would send smith down the sweep route though. Those dismissals where completely against his 2017 methodology, feel like he would tried going back more to the 2017 methodology then going further away from it.
I agree with you but there was definitely a change in approach from Smith - maybe it was a team thing as there was a lot of sweeping going on.

When England beat India in 2012/13, we used the sweep alot and used it well.

I wonder if Jadeja got in to Smith's head a little bit.

He cleaned bowl Smith twice in the 1st test, 1 was a no ball though, and maybe Smith thought he needed to go down the sweep route.
Well he got out to Ashwin. I actually thought it won't be the worst idea to play couple of slog sweeps against Ashwin when he is bowling over the wicket. Recall Smith doing that in Pune when he made that ton but it was all about the execution. That was not the correct ball

Is it possible that Smith is past his peak ? So he may score runs here and there but not as fluently as he did till 2019 ?
Last summer against SA and WI was the best he has looked in a long long time. People remember Head's 92 on that treacherous Gabba wicket but Smith looked at ease with the new batting setup until getting a Jaffa from Nortje. But the new setup was all about playing fast bowling as he never really had many issues playing spin

Then maybe he is trying too many things

He looked about as fluent as he ever has during his double vs the Windies and his 100 at the SCG last summer, and during his 150* in Sri Lanka. Every time he walked out to bat and hit a few balls in those knocks you could tell he was going to make a huge score. Don't think it's fluency based on that. Maybe Ashwin getting him out so much in AUS last time got to his head a bit?

A batting line up with Kela Kohli Gujara ain't winning WTC final. There is no point bothering about it.
If they decide to play Gill in middle order perhaps he can boost the fragile batting.
Gujara is past it & I don't know why was he brought back after the debacle in SA. He was dropped from SL test series but somehow came back smashing Division 2 county trundlers.
Not really bothered tbh, already know that India going to lose most probably. Only after the defeat, selectors will wake up and discard the garbage, I hope!

Thats the main objective now, need to somehow get these ***** out before India has another 2012 kind of debacle against England in 2024 at home. Don't want history to repeat itself. Need to learn from past mistakes of hanging on to dead weights for too long.

So at least 2 of the 3 need to be dumped this year.

From where is this defeatist mentality coming ? Australia are favourites but we can certainly win if we keep Smith and Labu under control .

Yeah, I'd say it's maybe 60-40 to Australia in England, just about as likely to collapse to swing as our own batting.
Australia aren't exactly batting geniuses in swing/seam friendly conditions and don't have much of a good record vs India at the moment.

Pant is out
Bumrah may be out too
Add in 1-2 more injuries after IPL

plus with this batting lineup in Sena conditions, it's overall looking unlikely.

moreover there's a quick turnaround from IPL to WTC, which doesn't bode well either.

If I had to bet say $2000, I certainly wouldn't bet on India! (partly thanks to timing of IPL). There's only what 8-9 days between IPL & WTC

Definitely a bit stronger than us though given Smith/Labu, especially if we're carrying certain passengers.

Our lower order h4x gets reduced by 1 (or 2 if the selectors feel like it) in those conditions too.

This negativity is the literal worst thing about discussions. It's like you can't say anything remotely normal without having to moan and groan a bit over the future. Come on, surely this could be better? It's not MoanWeb last I checked.

The Australians aren't exactly looking like they're not full of passengers either, and H2H have struggled enough to put this 'advantage' into doubt despite the rest of the complaint brigade.
