***Official*** Australia in India 2017

You obviously bat till tea not lunch tommorow, and given the pitch and scoring rate you are looking at 500+ easily if that happens.
And then you have India score 700 and Australia having to bat last day 150 behind and likely to lose given their good chance of collapses. Just don't let that option be an option.

450 looks like the bare minimum they'll get right now.

Probably a lot more TBH.
Australia has a great record of losing lots of wickets for little. When Warner goes, he will likely be followed by another 6 wickets for 60. 450 is only likely if these two make it to stumps tonight.

Bat into day 3?

Wtf?

Lets get to stumps today first
Yeah....I'm meaning, given the choice. Don't be ****nuts and lose quick wickets chasing quick runs trying to have intent.

I mean bat for as long as you possibly can, unless you make it to day 3, then declare if you managed to make it that far.

Kuldeep's action has changed a bit since I last saw him -- slightly higher which seems to have helped him cut back on the long hops, but it'll probably make him more reliant on getting his seam presentation right to get real turn.

Remind me of best touring performances with the bat in India. This Smith series is the best I have ever seen (I think).
Some candidates would be:

Clive Lloyd in 1974: 636 runs @ 79.50 in 5 tests, two 100s, one 50, top score of 242*
Mike Gatting in 1984: 575 runs @ 95.83 in 5 tests, two 100s, one 50, top score of 207
Alistair Cook in 2012: 562 runs @ 80.28 in 4 tests, three 100s, top score of 190
Matthew Hayden in 2001: 549 runs @ 109.80 in 3 tests, two 100s, two 50s, top score of 203
Andy Flower in 2000: 540 runs @ 270 in 2 tests, two 100s, two 50s, top score of 232*
Hashim Amla in 2010: 490 runs @ 490 in 2 tests, three 100s, top score of 253*
Younis Khan in 2005: 508 runs @ 101.60 in 3 tests, two 100s, one 50, top score of 267

Weekes and Sobers also had huge 5 test series in the 40s and 50s respectively, 779 @ 111.28 for Weekes with four 100s and 557 @ 92.83 for Sobers with three 100s. But India probably not the same force at home at that point that they are today.

Smith so far has 446 @ 89.20 with two 100s and one 50. So somewhere in that pack, tough conditions for two tests but easier runs since then. Better than average Indian attack overall I'd say, even if Ashwin hasn't been at his best.

The only series on that list I've really watched the whole way through is the one with Hayden, and I think Smith's performance this series has been better than Hayden's.

I just realised Smith doesn't really ever defend on the front foot to pacers. Always hanging back and playing it right under his nose from the crease.

Yeah that's old school technique from the 60s and 70s.

First wicket for the debutant. Well done him.

Pretty soft dismissal that, just bounced a wee bit.
Yeah, it came onto him a lot quicker than expected, bounced and didn't turn. He was thinking it was going to sit up and let him cut it, but it behaved more like a top spinner than anything else.

Kohli still doing a bunch of captaincy even though he's not playing is starting to irritate me tbh. It's an irrational gripe really, but it's still bothering me.
