I really feel Australia needs to restrict India to 350 or less. 400 will be dicey. Any more and we're done.

Just thinking as the camera gave a wide angled shot , how I envied people who were there watching a great game of cricket under sunny skies in a great place. Ah well. Breakfast calls.
Looking forward to the rest of the days play.

It's a weird way to approach batting in most circumstances IMO, because it's like you've decided before you've gone out to bat that you stand no chance at playing a long innings, and thus have absolved yourself of all blame if you fail, even if that failure ultimately is down to you and not the pitch. It's the coward's way out. Sure in some cases it's blatantly obvious that you won't bat out many deliveries because the ball is just doing too much, but it's a mentality thrown about way too frequently by batsmen who simply lack the talent and temperament to adapt.

You'll never hear guys like Smith or Pujara push that idea, for sure.
Smith said exactly that in the past:

“So you have to be proactive in the way you play. If you just sit there and try and defend all day, one is eventually have your name on it."

But he changed his approach, credit to him:

"I think we have been guilty in the past of saying, "A ball is going to have your name on it, so get them before one gets you." To be honest with you, that's rubbish."

Great match so far. Australia have bowled really well today but they seem a paceman short in these conditions. With hindsight it might've been worth the risk to go for a 3/1 attack (and have Maxwell backing up the main spinner) but maybe the spinners will come into it more in the later stages.

You're not going to win matches in India if your spinners don't/can't take wickets. Aus have found that out post 1st Test.

The new ball was seaming and swinging around a bit but nothing crazy. Australia bowled fantastically to make it look as dangerous as they did, hit almost perfect areas and used the short ball really well. The pitch has nice carry and the odd one isn't bouncing as much, which again helps and has been used well by the bowlers.

It's just good batting conditions and I don't mind India grinding on and on at 2.5 per over, as long as we keep batting and score somewhere in the region of 500.

If the pitch breaks up and we have cracks and footmarks forming, that will only help us out if we have a lead and keep batting till they appear.
The only issue with batting that long is that it definitely brings the draw back into play.

I think this scoring rate is fine as long as they don't put pressure on themselves by allowing too many maidens. If these two get us another 100 runs and the rest get us another 75, Jaddu can come in and have a good slog before we declare.
