While I doubt it will ever be something that's said in the media, I think Australia were pretty happy with a draw from the moment that they didn't get a wicket in the first few overs today. The chances of winning from there were fairly low whereas India had/have a real chance. A draw is a good result for Australia from here, sends it to a deciding test and 1-1 means they've come to India and lot lost which is a pretty huge result. Problem is going to be batting on the final day with the pitch more likely to assist India's bowlers vs Australia's right-handers than it has today.
Bowling workload is an issue but India will have to bowl again and the over counts won't end up that different.
As far as India is concerned, no reason not to bat as long as possible. Best chance of a win is bowling Australia out in two sessions tomorrow.

Man looking at the overall balls faced records is insane. Australia bowled 335 overs in the innings where Hutton made his 364 in 1938.

Yeah, agree. Setting Australia up for one of those tricky 3rd innings where teams can't really play for the win anymore and seem to collapse a lot is the way for India to go here.

India should be pushing the run rate where possible, but any chat of declaration/declaration batting is premature.
If Australia catch India's total tomorrow, then every run is effectively worth double. From that stage the likes of Maxwell and Warner could take the match out of India's hands very quickly.
India need to go all-in on the "bat once" strategy. Worst comes to worst it leaves them chasing 20 in 4 overs tomorrow.

Yeah basically if India lose 4/30 after tea, they'll have a lead of 82. If Australia get off to a good start with the momentum of those quick wickets behind them, they could have almost erased that deficit by stumps and grab a lead early tomorrow and basically ensure it ends as a draw.
On the other hand if India bat the rest of the day, lead by 120-150, bat the first hour tomorrow and get 200 ahead and then declare, Australia have to bat the rest of the day or they lose. Scoring won't have much impact since getting a significant lead is unlikely so it's going to be 70-80 overs of survival on a 5th day pitch against a good pair of spinners with rough to deal with with for the right-handers. That's far more likely to result in a win than getting "quick runs" now and then declaring.
