FMD Hayden shut up about this #intent bullshit. Throwing wickets away when in a good position in the first dig is what cost Australia the last test match. JFC bat til stumps today if you can, and into session one tomorrow to, in the words of the immortal Allan Border at the end of day two of the Headingly test in 1993 "inflict further physical and mental disintegration on the opposition"
It's so daft. "You've got into a great position in this Test and series by playing a certain way, so what you should do now is throw all that out"

Last Test: "Stop bowling Ashwin! There are other bowlers too!"

This Test: "Where is Ashwin? Why aren't they bowling him?"

I can't believe he gets paid for saying this ****. Ok, ideally you want to push on from here, sure. But in these conditions surely you don't think about that until you're 450 odd, and even then only if they haven't lost another wicket. This isn't the team from the early-mid 2000s with Gilchrist, Lee, Warne, Dizzyet al who could cash in like mother****ers. This tail has a bloke whose played one test instead of Starc, Sok can't hit it off the square, Lyon's batting has gone to crap and Haze's most notable innings was one where he got run out for nought.

Which are fair comments because they were overbowling him before and today, he literally hasn't bowled at all. It's a bit baffling.

There's this whole middle ground they haven't touched.

I don't know, I think he has a slight point. You can be positive without being reckless. Smith was in danger of getting bogged down. You don't want a situation like last test where you hand the momentum back to the opposition. They have lifted the tempo a bit in the last few overs which is good.

i've mentioned this in other threads before but how could Dean Jones be Maxwells childhood hero his international career was essentially over before Maxwell could have been a proper cricket fan
Burgey's hero is Alan Border who played over a 100 years ago. And Burgey is an old man.

Yeah that's why it's funny

When Lyon first came in he really looked like he was going to be another Gillespie like tail-ender who could hang around and even make a few, then all of a sudden he flipped a switch and became a less-coordinated Tom Southee

He went a whole Ashes series without being dismissed. He got 70 odd in a Shield game having a slog and since then he's been pish

Eh, it still looks fairly roady tbh. Wait until Day 3 before making such pronouncements.
I don't think it's a particularly difficult pitch at the moment, but there's notably more in it for the bowler than yesterday. That means that

a) Australia look like batting through the 'best time' to bat, assuming they don't collapse pre-lunch.

b) The pitch will likely continue to get worse, meaning that even if a collapse meant Australia only got 400, India would find scoring their 400 much harder.

Whatever it takes!!!
I wont be quick to call the pitch to be breaking up just yet. Sometimes the morning session moisture makes the surface softer at the top but as the day goes on and the sun bakes it, it gets better. Excellent knocks from Smith and Maxi though. Flat pitch, and a flattened side once Kohli was injured and Rahane sucks as a skipper but still, they did not throw it away which they could so easily have done. And now with Wade digging in, they are good for 500+ and putting pressure on India. Lets not forget that India are carrying 3 batsmen with shoulder injuries - Rahul, Vijay and Kohli. They will be severely limited in their shot making and that should help Australia set attacking fields and go for the jugular.

Yeah but how many times did England make 400 on decks like this in sharpish time before getting fisted to death? The deck is doing more but incrementally. Grind them into oblivion while you can.

Yes, a declaration should not even be considered unless they are somehow 700 half way through day 3

Lol.. you are the one who finds proper compliments backhanded, coz you are so used to giving only those out to players from other countries. Smith has not yet hit a ball in the air and Maxwell reined himself in to ensure they put a score on the board first before they got fancy. On flat batting tracks like these, that is the biggest challenge any batsman can have.
