It's still a game of he-said-she-said. If it's true though it's poor by the Australians.
If it's not it's poor by the Indians.

Those three sentences pretty much sum up the whole thing. Time for everyone to just move on.

Lol

That's the whole thing about most of the sledging I've encountered - most of it is puerile, pretty boring and some is downright embarrassing with it being a poor reflection on the intellect of the sledger

If more players were capable of picking their time and confining it to the type of comment you suggested, the game would be so much more enjoyable to play and observe.

Unfortunately, we're not dealing with mensa candidates in the main
You need to do your research to deliver a good sledge. Off-the-cuff remarks are usually pretty pathetic.

I wonder if the Aus video analyst was signaling the ground but not for DRS reasons. Kohli claims he saw it during his batting innings but there wasn't any serious appealing going on during his brief stays at the crease. But there was a couple of half shouts. I wonder if the analyst was sending suggestions about the bowler's lines or lengths to the players. This wouldn't be against the rules and it makes sense that it would be done after an appeal and would be independent of the DRS system. If the Aussies had a plan of "4th stump line" to a batsman but the bowler was a little wide or a little full, such a signal from the dressing room could help the bowler make the adjustment to help execute their plans better.

Anyway, such actions could have been misinterpreted by Kohli and Co which could have lead to the overreaction by him at the end of the game.

This is all conjecture but if true would exonerate all parties and fits all of the facts and allegations.

Sounds like more bullshit made up by team India. There was no proof except for footage of Kohli batting for his short stays at the crease. And there was nothing remotely like a DRS referral. Should be a thorough investigation into Kohli's slanderous allegations. Let the facts come out, no chance the ICC is protecting Smith or the Australians ... money talks

My favourite part of that Ashwin to Renshaw sledge is that he said he would have them for 'soup and dessert', implying that their wickets weren't valuable enough to be considered for the main course.

WAG. You all just don't get it.
Or that the wicket is so valuable that it's worth two courses...

Like let's suppose Kohli is right, which I still see no justification for, and that Aus were consistently looking up at the dressing room for guidance.

The worst thing that comes out of that is... slightly more accurate reviews. This is what we're getting all agitated over? Really?
You're kidding right?

Agreed, which is exactly why we should not be sweeping this under the carpet but investigating this thoroughly. It's not that hard. The entire match is recorded. We just have to watch closely the moments when DRS calls were made. It's really that simple.

It will be very clear then. I thought that's the way we solve 'he said-she said' cases. I am not surprised ICC swept this under the carpet but I am just surprised so many people on this thread want to do so and 'move on'.

Can't agree with this. Regardless of how kohli reacted to it, what Smith was attempting to do was clearly underhanded and blatantly against the rules.

Yeah I agree. This is a case which clearly shouldn't take long to investigate and sort out.

It may seem like a waste of resources to do it but I'm petty and want to see who was wrong here.

If it was just that one incident then lets just move on.... if Kohli had already brought it up with the umpires/match referee then should action not be taken as part of the match report? Anyway clearly the ICC is not going to do anything about it, regardless, and in all probability if something was there its been dealt with behind the scenes already.

Not like any of this is new. Rewind: Hansie Cronje and Bob Woolmer's earpiece ploy | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo And that was not even illegal yet... but it was against the "spirit" apparently.

Yeah, but I'm saying that I don't see why this couldn't be handled basically in-house by the on field umpires and the match referee, rather than having an entire song and dance and the boards getting involved.

Well that obviously happened because Kohli came out guns blazing in the press conference because he is Kohli and the media and Twitter got involved.

But that aside, point still stands. Smith did look up and the 'brain fade' excuse is just not sufficient.
