**** forgot the rules. Even if India overtake England I still have to have the avatar until around June. Still the best result. Go NZ!
Another plus if NZ beat England is that WW won't be able to argue that WI is better than them.

I am pretty sure Sachin will be playing in SA. If the selectors wanted to drop him they would have told him and he would have announced his retirement before this game.

Plus I think his inclusion is borderline justified. India has five new batsmen, do we really want to go to SA with six? The younger batsmen will learn a lot from Sachin. Plus while Sachin probably won't average much more than 30 is there any likely replacement who is likely to do better?

Finally he will get to play his 200th test match which is a pretty remarkable achievement though of course Ishant Sharma will one day break his record.

Whenever we pick guys that are doing well and look good in domestic cricket, they happen to turn out alright. Guys like Praveen Kumar, Yadav, Ojha, Ashwin, Vijay, Dhawan, Pujara, Kohli etc. There are of course a few exceptions like Ishant Sharma, Dinda and Jaffer (:(), but generally that's the trend.

That's why it particularly gets to me when in the recent past they've still decided to go ahead with selections like Aaron, Chawla, Yuvraj, Harbhajan, and Raina (did have a few good innings leading up to his selection tbf to him) who don't have those runs or wickets to back them up. This series has shown signs that we're slowly discarding that practice of selection based on names.

Having said that I still fully expect the IPL to launch some ****s career and provide a pathway into our odi and test squad anyways. Just hope it's a bloke who can actually play cricket.
Vijay wasn't doing well in FC this season tbf except 2 Irani trophy knocks perfectly timed with 2 selections on flat wickets.

Ishant hadn't done much in FC either when he was selected pretty young as a prodigy of sorts. He needs to go there for a full season now to improve his game.

But yeah, the larger point i agree with.

Hopefully the likes of Badrinath, Rahane, Pankaj, Sid Kaul, Rayudu etc.. do well again in IPL. But fully expecting atleast one/2 more Gony, Rahul Sharma and Saurabh Tiwary to make it into ODI team at least.

He won't get dropped but may retire before that like Dravid/Laxman did.

Maxwell also became the first Australian in 84 years to open the batting and bowling in the same Test match, since Percy Hornibrook did so in 1929.

from cricnfo that really is a disgusting fact

So you want him to be in a mentoring role, basically? Because he isn't doing much by way of spending time in the middle or scoring runs at an extremely pivotal spot in the order. Two 50s in the last twelve Tests..is that what we want from our no. 4? How is that of value escapes me.

The faster pitches would be ideal to try out Rohit Sharma, give the kid a go already for ****sakes. Not to belabor a point, because I was plumping for Rahane before this game, but there are certain times when just a player's initial appearance at the crease and the way he shapes up to receive the ball - batsman's physical form - gives a fair hint on whether he'll go well in certain conditions. Rohit Sharma has always had that, with seconds to spare (literally if you look at his waistline). If Sachin was to play in SA, I would be far more comfortable having Rohit in the XI over Rahane.

Pretty sure Kohli is proof that you don't debut players overseas. Took a while to get going in WI and then Australia before it all clicked.

That being said Rohit Sharma has been around a while now so I would not necessarily complain if he debuted in South Africa.

I think that if we're dropping Sehwag (which we should), also dropping Sachin could really be horrible.

Sachin only came in to bat once in a pressure situation this series for mine, and he played well. He is past his best, no doubt about it at all. I will not argue that. But I think we need him for SA because at the very least they will worry about him. I don't care what you say after what he did in South Africa in 2010/11 South Africa will put a lot of time into him. It helps - look at how Australia went here without both Hussey and Ponting for the first time.

No doubt, Sachin is on the wane.

But is there anybody screaming out there to be included in the side in his spot?

I can't find anyone.

Till someone comes around and stakes a claim, Sachin should and will keep his spot at no.4.

If Tendulkar goes to South Africa he'll be ripped apart imo. He's just struggled through a series on home turf in not so difficult conditions against a pretty toothless attack. I'm scared to even think of whatll happen to him against the best bowling attack in years in a country acknowledged to be one of the toughest places to bat in... We all know how touring batting lineups have gone in SA recently. It'll just lead to a Ponting - like final series, after which he'll have no choice but to retire. Better it happens now and we send someone like Rohit Sharma instead.
What an experience that'll be though... Kept out of the test side for years and debuting against the best bowling attack of the generation.

And he was going into that series after a poor series.

4-0! YEAAAAAAAAAAAH

Evened it up with the Aussies at least. Good work team India.

Also guys SA is later this year, I think it's a bit pointless to discuss selections now, lets just celebrate the win, been a while since we got a chance to do so :)

Tendy is a great player and deserves to go out on his own terms but I can see him going the way of IVA and having people questioning his position in the game because he stays on too long

Can't remember India whitewashing a side in a 3 test series before, let alone 4-0. Jadeja's performance was the biggest shocker :O

Hard to judge India's performance bc Australia have been so bad. Well done though. It's exciting to see a new era of batsmen coming through.

The fact is the people who failed didn't come as a surprise: Watson and Warner are too one-note to be test-class batsmen. Wade is totally out of his depth as a test keeper.

Question though: what's going on with Watson's bowling? Does he plan on taking it up again for the Ashes?

Watched the first session before I fell asleep. Was incredible.

Playing in India can cause some boring **** matches but just as much there can be some immensely exciting matches. Australia didn't have quite enough to make this a really exciting match.

Hard to find two bigger douchebags than Warner and Kohli but it just added to the fervoured atmosphere and all the hate between the two teams.

I really think this is an average Indian team. This was an Australian team in complete disarray with no coherant policies and with limited experience in Asia. Yes India won 4-0 but **** there were some bad performances by indians.
