He will do good on flat pitches and reasonably well on turners. Pace will be his problem I guess. If he can be consistent on Indian pitches, it pays to persist with him, but if he is going to be terrible overseas and hit and miss in India, then no point.
If you just want players to do well at home, bring back Jaffer or something. I think India can be fairly confident (English series notwithstanding) of finding dominating batsmen at home, at least for now....I'd actually be OK with having two completely different lineups for home vs. away if we can find some players do well overseas.

That doesn't build a team unfortunately, only results in insecurity.

Jaffer is actually better now then he was back when he was last dropped.
