The middle order without Hussey looks a bit thin.. Clarke is the only good player of spin in this side..not that India have any quality spinners..so it might not even matter.

What happened to Hilfenhaus?

Hilfenhaus is injured, side strain or something similar.

cowan
watson
hughes
khawaja
maybe both of henriques and maxwell
wade
pattinson
siddle
lyon
bird

Tangles

International Vice-Captain
Lyon, Doherty, Maxwell and Smith as the spin options. India are shaking in their boots no doubt. Ironic that Clarke is more likely to get a wicket.

Tipping we pick Maxwell, and then also pick Doherty so that we don't have two right arm offies.

Loving the pessimism. A good reminder that all is right with the world.
Nah the Indian squad has not been selected yet. Indian fans will absolutely smash Australia on the pessimism scale.

The only thing India will smash Australia in for the record #alreadystarted

Smith would be a decent pick for this tour if he had been bowling alot in the lead up. Could potentially bat him at 7 behind Wade and go with 3 quicks and Lyon. Without the lead up though seems a bit stupid to go with that.

I shudder at Doherty's inclusion. While I consider O'Keefe's figures to be unrealistic he at least matches Doherty's bowling and provides more in every other department.

Out of this squad here are two teams I'd potentially select(assuming Warner is fit).

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Khawaja
Clarke
Watson (Bowls 5 overs max per day)
Wade
Starc
Siddle
Bird
Lyon

or

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Watson
Clarke
Wade
Smith
Starc
Siddle
Bird
Lyon

Pattinson or Johnson could come in above Bird or Starc respectively but it would ultimately depend on their form in the warm up games. Clarke would probably be expected to bowl a few overs unless Smith is included. Personally wouldn't look at Henriques or Maxwell unless Lyon is injured or if they really achieve something in a warm up. Wouldn't bat Khawaja any lower than in 4 in the lineup which could work out well for him if Warner is injured.

so that's a reference to something that happened about two months ago. basically, smith took a time out from bowling leg spin. he decided everything that he had been told to do over the past 4 years was rubbish. so he was sorting that out. anyway, there was a game on and nsw had SOK (left arm) and a young leg spinner playing, and QLD had two left handed batsman out there, so Smith bowled some offies for awhile at the left handers.

sadly usman survived the spell

it was because i saw a tweet suggesting smith had only bowled 90 balls for nsw this season. was wondering how much of that was off spin.
