Mohali is not a good venue if you want crowds for test matches. That was evident in the last 2 test matches (Aus and Eng in 08) so I'm not really surprised. And now that Aus are battling first don't expect more ppl to come in either.
It is still disconcerting. India favourites, ranked #1, against a team that they have as good a chance to smash as they have in over a decade (not like their record at home hasn't been bad at all), in a country where cricket is the be-all and end-all. Not huge but very good crowds, but better venues. Plus the quality of cricket was insane. Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore all better than Mohali. Even NZ managed to make 600 at Mohali.Amazing isn't it, the crowd? Back in 2001 I recall the crowds being massive, unless that's just nostalgia.
I am told the whole country is under some sort of security alert because of a major court verdict, some religious stuff.Amazing isn't it, the crowd? Back in 2001 I recall the crowds being massive, unless that's just nostalgia.
That's surprising. Here on hot days, the idea is to get in much earlier to finish earlier to minimise exposure to the sun. Why the late start?I am told the whole country is under some sort of security alert because of a major court verdict, some religious stuff.
Not to forget it is still early in the morning, people don't show up for work before 11.
Disgusting crowd btw.
tbh I think Aus is a lot better now than they were in 08 when they came. The fact that Australia are batting first doesn't help either. The truth is India have A LOT of cricket stadiums all over the Country. But not all should be hosting test matches. Giving test matches to places like Mohali and Gwalior is like Aus playing a test match at Canteburry or Caneburry (sorry I forget the name). It is still disconcerting.
