*Official* Australia in India 2010

That monkey has been gone ever since he scored that hundred in Bangalore 08. Anyone claiming that Punter can't play spin in IND (which i have seen on CW since), is seriously misinformed.
He does play spin very well in general, his batting in 99 vs Murali was outstanding, had no problems whatsoever on massive turning tracks. In 01 Harby got him early all series, batting at number 6, he did look bad but has never looked that bad since.

I'm not saying Ponting can't play spin in India, but he hardly turned into a run scoring machine after that Bangalore ton in 2008. His scores for the rest of the 4 test series in 2008 were:

17
5
2
87
24
8

Reckon he's been better this current series tbh

Zaheer and Ishant got him out in 08 more than spin. So the scores themselves arent proof of a spin problem. Granted he aint the greatest against spin, but he's nowhere near as bad as some people make him out to be.

Yeah good point. Looking over the dismissals, they were the pace bowlers.

I'd still hardly call 2008 a good series by Ponting.

I think the pressure to score runs there, for the simple fact that he hasn't, hinders him more than the actual spin bowling TBF. Anyway, would love him to finish with 50+ against every country even if he doesn't get to 40+ in every test country.
I don't think he struggles against spin. in fact, he can dominate spin like anybody else. Anyone who hammers bhajji the way ricky did in the '03 WC final has to be a master player of spin. also his double hundreds against india on aussie soil and some of his performances against murali are great demonstrations of his mastery over quality spin. it is just that his weak record in india will always be a blackmark against him, since he will end up averaging under 30 over here despite two good series towards the end, that it will be a good point to use against people who would like to project ponting as "the" batter of his generation. this point is useful only for jobless guys discussing cricket in pub. otherwise, ricky, whenever he retires, can leave the game with the satisfaction he has done his best for his country and that he will be remembered as a top 20 batsman of all time.

I am one of those guys in the pub making sure no one around me calls ricky the best batter of the generation and my biggest weapon is his record in india. dont want to lose it :)

Yeah Ponting's a gun. As I said above, looked more threatening here than in 2008 for mine. Really should have had two tons in this series.

Not that I'm complaining :D

Nathan needs to man up. It's the captains choice ffs. It isn't under 10's where everyone gets a go, it's day five of a seesawing test match.

Disappointed in Hauritz if he's having a sook about this.

But he wasn't having a sook. He just said he was disappointed, and it's likely that his poor bowling early in the day resulted in Ponting's decision.

He didn't say anything at all outrageous, and neither did Ponting.

Definition of a non-story for me.

Yeah, he went so early in that series every time that you could never really tell how good he was.

I think he has improved at it as his career has progressed, TBF. Ponting in 2001 was a different beast to the Ponting of 2008.

Thought some of Ponting's comments were interesting regarding having pointed out some things for Hauritz to work on 18 months ago (seemed to be an indication he hadn't worked on them), and that Hauritz and Harbhajan were like chalk and cheese when it came to spin bowling.

Think he's right by the way, hopefully Hauritz will be spurred on to try a few different things.

Hauritz is also coming off a very long lay-off. He looked well short of the same bowler as 7-8 months ago. Needs to be considered by those knocking his performance.

I think the pressure and expectations people put on him to perform on Indian pitches has got to him tbh

Paine always looks so good, his batting is so simple and correct. Should make a lot of runs in test cricket, looks good against pace and spin too.
