Any news in regards to Laxman for the next match?

If he doesn't play.. quite excited to see Pujara get a go. I have heard alot about him and his stats look pretty good as well. I haven't actually seen him bat before so interested in seeing how he goes here. I would love to see him do well.

"Australia's selectors have backed middle-order batsman Marcus North despite him making three ducks in his previous three Tests. North has scored more than 10 only thrice in 13 second innings, but the chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch, indicated that he could still win a place in the Ashes squad."

Unbelievable...yet somehow quite believable.

It's no surprise. These selectors are incredibly stubborn. They'd rather Australia burn (get it, ashes reference!) than admit they might have been wrong about a player

Got Spin, "The Opposite" episode of Seinfeld was on last night.

Seen it about 200 times, yet still had me in stitches. So good.

When George walks into the Diner with his double breasted Yankees suit and says "Greetings, people. Greetings. Greetings and salutations. What a beautiful day for a ball game. Let's play two!" I was close to tears of laughter. All the while Elaine is sitting there becoming a loser like the old George

 on Tv1 right? I watched that as well. Has to be one of my favourite episodes. So many good moments, but I still love the bit when George bursts into the apartment announcing 'the new york yankeeeeeeeeeees'.

:furious:

This is getting quite serious now.

Incompetence and stubborness writ large.

Yeah bit worried since I bet a mate that If North plays in the boxing day test I'll get a mohawk.

Unless North somehow starts ripping it, I highly doubt he'll be playing by the Boxing Day test (4th test?).

Being in the squad and in the XI are two different things.

It also has possible the best Seinfeld moment ever:

"My name is George, I'm unemployed, and I live with my parents"

He better not! A mohawk just won't suit me

Yeh but it seems clear now, he doesn't have to start 'ripping it' at all to be retained. The way he is going now seems good enough for the selectors, which is why this situation is so ridiculous. I think there must be some personal connections Hilditch has with North or something, because I don't even know why he was selected in the first place.

I understand what you're saying and agree that it is quite possibly the case however, as they are currently in the middle of a series, you cant expect him to come out and say "we've had enough, he's hopeless, etc"

Wow, if that decision had been given on the overthrows, would this conversation be taking place? A bit of an overreaction one feels. Teams wins in India rarely, even with an all time great lineup. And India never have pace bowlers. So the fact that they came so close is a very positive sign.
Agree with this

Australia came back very strongly and fell short by the thinnest of margins

India, on the other hand, overcame all the negatives to win again

Both teams should take positives out of the match

If they learnt from George in "The Opposite" they might.

Does an Aussie player have to fail in an Ashes series to get dropped? Katich, Martyn, Gillespie & Hughes all got the arse after much shorter periods of mediocrity than North's turned out.

His offies are ok and all, but come on...
