*Official* Australia in India 2010

Ponting retiring would and will be bad when the time comes. It won't be catastrophic, but it will leave a hole like the Warne/McGrath one which will need some patience to fill.

Hopefully Ponting stays around as long as possible.
I dunno, if his form continues to decline, the transition will be pretty smooth I think. When Warne and McGrath left they were still at the top of their games, so it really left a freakingly enormous gaping hole. I agree though about Punter staying around. Even if he continues to only average 40, he is still an excellent fielder and player in general to have in the team.

Will just make it worse.

He'll be below par, so some other bloke will come in earlier and take up the mantle, and he might need 10 or so tests to get cracking which is perfectly understandable. But even then he probably won't match Ponting's finest, which isn't a knock on the newbie. Ponting was ****ing immense.

Who would come in? Michael Klinger? Or would you drop Watto to three and bring in A. Opener?

No, I mean if you assume Ponting is essentially past his peak for good and can only average around 40 for the rest of his career, then obviously the difference when a new batsman comes in won't be as great (assuming Aus can find another batsman who averages over 40, which I'm sure they will be able to). Usman is a potential option. I don't know about the batting positions and all the shifts that would have to be made, its all speculation at this point. For all I know, Ponting might kick into gear again and bat well for the next few years, hence making this discussion rather pointless. The ashes will be the decider on this issue (Ponting's form, that is), I feel.

Clarke is also letting me down on the betting front. Got him for most Aus runs for the series. Better double ton up twice in the second test

Yeah but compared to the Ponting of a few years ago, it will be hard to find such a dominant batsman.

It's a bit like how this Aussie bowling attack is pretty good but you'd still go for McGrath/Gillespie/Lee/Warne.

I loaded up on Aust twice in this match, so am on a decent pay packet if India lose.

The money will soften the disappointment :(
 Fair enough. Mainly put the bets on to give me extra motivation to watch as much as I can and ignore any uni work that may get in the way. Still, if Aus win the series my winnings can buy me a suit in Vietnam, with change to spare might I add

Will be sad to see him go. Ponting is the last Australian link from when I watched cricket as a little grom

Oh yeh, of course... Australian probably won't find another Ponting for 20 or so years. But If we are lucky I think we'll be able to find other batsman who can average 50.

Anyways I'm gonna hit the sack...really looking forward to tmrw to see how it pans out.

Going to Hoi An in Vietnam?

If so I'll let you know a few good places to go to. The place is stacked with tailors you won't know who to choose.

Oh really? That'd be fantastic. Basically some mates and I are travelling from Thailand, across into Cambodia, then Vietnam South to North and into Laos. So yeah, I'm sure we could go to Hoi An as well. Really want to pick up some good suits while I'm there. Maybe through the message system let me know if u have a chance?

Yeah will do mate.

Hoi An is easily the best place to go for suits in Vietnam. You couldn't take a piss without hitting a tailor over there.

Can't speak for Thailand or Cambodia with regards to suits, but everyone I know that travelled SE Asia got theirs done at Hoi An, just because of its rep.

Cambodia is awesome for Polos, A&Fs, Fred Perry etc shirts at a fraction of the original price. Thats about as far I got with shopping there though, was there mainly for charity work.
