Yes, but they actually need to be spinners to count.Prince EWS said:Im was referring to batting ability, as per the quote.
I think it all started during that series against INdia after the WC, during the Aussie summer of 2003. They dropped catches by the dozen in that series and I don't think they have ever improved significantly in that department since then. Gotta wonder what Buchanan does.tooextracool said:indeed and i mentioned this at the start of the series too. catches win matches, and its not just coincidence that the better team tends to drop less catches than the team that loses. australia have shown a major decline in their fielding standards over the last year or so, and after ponting's 'we'll have a bowl' in the 2nd test, the dropped catches have been the most significant factor in their defeat.
Sorry, no sale. The Derbyshire secretary can't find a fifty and two twenties changeScaly piscine said:Maybe he's going to do a Malcolm Glazer and buy out Derbyshire, I'm sure he'll have a hundred dollar note lying about somewhere.
Which was, essentially, my point.marc71178 said:Yes, but they actually need to be spinners to count.
Otherwise we can just pick someone like Alex Loudon (who is still IMO a part-time spinner) because he's a better batsman.
Before this game we had dropped 24, and Australia 14.tooextracool said:i'd be surprised if that were the case, but even then most of englands dropped catches came at Lords.
Enjoy that name while it lasts.ashes winners said:Better team won.Deservedly so.
I will.It may last a while as our team will get better. Can Australia's?andyc said:Enjoy that name while it lasts.
because we wanted to remain world champions in the short term.. which we didRetox said:I have a question for the Australians on this forum. When Shane Warne retired from ODIs why didn't they pick a young spinner so that in 2 years when Warne retires there is backup not 35 year old hogg?
Just like me coming out of the pub last night - hell, just like me in the office this morning.Pedro Delgado said:Just watched Fred getting on the open top bus, eyes glazed and struggling to walk straight.

Oh just to add one more.......The incredible number of more than 215,000 viewers to this Ashes Thread !!!!!zinzan12 said:Well done England!!!!! Fantastic effort and well deserved.
My 10 major memories of the series will be.............
1) The English team spirit
2) The stunning impact of Flintoff
3) The incredible brilliance and fight of Warne
4) The incredible non-performance of Gilchrist, Gillespie, Kaspa, Martyn and Hayden
5) The poor captaincy of Ponting (used to operating on autopilot)
6) The amount of dropped catches
7) The fantastic finishes
8) The 2nd test turning point (where England came out and finally decided to play Australia at their own game and scored 400 on the 1st day.
9) The incredible hype and interest created by the series by spectators and media a like - To hear it was keeping football off the front page !!!
10) The end of an Ashes Era - Along with congratulating England for ending the era, acknowledging Australia for raising the bar so high in the last 15 years.
Best cricket series ever for me !!!!!
Dublin is quite an English city really, bit like Bath, and cricket was very popular until some republican fellow (or some publican fellow) banned it. Anyhoo I was quite bladdered last night also, chin chin old chap. According to some Fred was still at it at 8am, wonder if he'll have a go at Boon's record next year....luckyeddie said:Just like me coming out of the pub last night - hell, just like me in the office this morning.
There's obviously been a number of people here getting a bit brassed off about the number of hours that people have been spending on cricket websites of late - so much so that yesterday, the final day of the greatest series of my lifetime, many of the URL's to cricket websites were blocked by network support. If this had been England, there'd have been a strike.
Luckily, neither Cricket Web nor the BBC were blocked, so I was able to keep up to date with how things were going (I kept CW a secret all to myself though, just in case the flood of traffic raised network suspicions).
Flippin' 'eck, he looks absolutely awful.Pedro Delgado said:Just watched Fred getting on the open top bus, eyes glazed and struggling to walk straight.

There were a fair few of us "Tired and Emotional" last night - and it wasn't just the English either (then again, whoever heard of any Paddy prepared to turn down a few pints and a night's good craic?)Pedro Delgado said:Dublin is quite an English city really, bit like Bath, and cricket was very popular until some republican fellow (or some publican fellow) banned it.
