Another awful shot there. Judging by the body language of both sides, the pre-match rhetoric about this match being meaningless would seem to be just that. Oh well, I guess Australia need a wake-up call more than they need a confidence-boost.
If this was the 7th ODI between England and Australia then maybe the teams wouldn't be too bothered (the second ODI series is a bit of overkill), but this is a one-off Twenty20 and it's also the opening game between the two sides.

Remind again, is it good or bad when your bowlers are coming in with the score in the 20's?
Remind me again, is it good to lose every Ashes series for nineteen years?

Seriously Jamee, I don't think anyone is making quite as big a deal out of this as you are. England have played very well, and have certainly been the better team today. This will no doubt give them a confidence boost, but whether or not is has any bearing on the Test or ODI series remains to be seen. Be happy that England will win, but at least make your posts useful.

We''re gonna win the series, We're gonna win the series.

What do ya mean a one off match doesn't count as a series?

Key word: Twenty20. Given that it's not even a legitimate international format, the teams obviously aren't going to put much stock in it.

However, Gough and Lewis will take a lot of confidence from this into the ODI series. It will have 0 impact on the tests, but it is a much needed confidence boost for England before the NWS, especially when you add it to the Champions Trophy win.

Uh, because its a rather pointless format that bears no relation to proper cricket? Still, its quite interesting to see Australia 31/7, even if it is a knockabout.. If the criminals are humiliated it might quiet some of their "experts" down a little

Shut ya yap, Jamee. This could well spur them on to give an utter spanking to us in the meaningful stuff and you know some over-sunned convict is going to remember this and give us England fans an utter going over.

We'll have our moments this summer (of that I'm sure) but use them gracefully so you don't sound like a dunce when the bad moment come about. :)

Err, what? I don't have sour grapes - Australia tried their best and have been well beaten by a far better team on the day. England batted very well and Australia bowled quite poorly, and Gough in particular did an excellent job with the ball and Lewis supported him well.

The point remains that it's a 20/20 game and therefore won't be particularly high in the players minds when they enter the more important parts of the tour. Aside from the fact that it will give the likes of Lewis and Gough a confidence boost before the NWS.
