Why Vaughan!??
He actually bowled quite well yesterday to langer and hayden. Langer, in all fairness, looked clueless against him. The other alternative, i suppose, is kevin peitersen...................

Not me, brilliant piece of bowling to set him up and execute.

However, if the Helen Keller of the keeping fraternity had bothered appealing when Martyn edged it and it was given out, Martyn deserved to have his **** kicked all the way back to Bogan, sorry, Western Aus for playing yet another waft.

Likewise, should Ponting continue to sweep at Giles and get out that way, someone should box the 4 ears on his 2 Tassie heads.

All in all, as good a result as could be hoped for considering excellent Eng bowling.

Aus were assisted by Vaughan's field placings and his bowling of Giles when Jones is infinitely more dangerous.

Against the right handers (who aren't totally clueless against him like some WI batsmen) I don't think Giles is anywhere near as effective - especially in this match situation. McGrath created some footmarks yesterday going around the wicket, and Vaughan can exploit those - like Giles does against lefties. You don't need to be a particularly good bowler to exploit conditions that really help your style of bowling. As it happens Vaughan has nice flight and spins it a fair bit, obviously he can be a bit inaccurate but he can get anyone out if he gets it right enough.

It would help if England managed to appeal when the batsman nicks the ball through to the keeper... 8-)

There was one side that appealed after seeing the replay on the big screen, which was very underhanded. Wasn't even considered by the umpire. I forget what team, but I'm thinking either England or South Africa

Bah. Matt, what's wrong with you mate?

Completely and utterly thrashed by Flintoff, from the start of that spell to the end. It would have been a travesty if he survived it really.
There's nothing wrong with him. That's the way he is against absolute top quality pace bowlers. He gets exposed. Look at his career - Ambrose, Walsh, Akhtar, and this English attack etc - have all had the best of him. He only takes apart solid/weak attacks.

Didn't someone (Tony Greig...?) appeal a day later? (I.e. appealed for the last ball of the previous day just before the first ball of the morning.)

WIth Bucknor he'd be a chance - wouldnt put it beyond him to take that long to consider an appeal.

That would be hilarious. To see everyone walk out into the field, arrange themselves and then suddenly have the bowler walk down the pitch, turn around, hold his arm outstretched and yell "OOOOOWWZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!"
