I actually thought Bell batted very well considering Vaughan's blazing form the other end. Just stuck it out.

Alas... If only Pietersen had done the same.....!
I guess thats his style though, Gilchrist does the same, when it comes off people love him when he gets out they wonder why he played the shot so early in his innings or so late in the day etc.

well superb day for me at Old Trafford for, definately the best of the the matches i ahve been to.Highlights

1. Seeing Shane Warne take his 600 test wicket :D
2. Brett Lee bowling from side on was superb viewing
3. Vaughan's innings (even though i was willing him to get out, great knock)
4. Shot of the Day- Vaughan over mid-wicket off dizzy
5. Bell was frustrating to watch but he batted well
6. Getting to talk with Flintoff :D

Biggest Disappoitment: Gillespie this is got to be his worst bowling performace on tour Jesus he was everywhere  , he should be dropped for the Nottingham test unless he comes up big for the rest of the match, i would pick Tait.

The pitch looks like a absolute belter, England are in a good position but Australia didn't help themselves with Mcgrath bowling Vaughan with a no-ball & 4 drop catches, the only one i'm excusing is Gilchrist of Vaughan the rest should have been taken. But with Lee bowling Hoggard to end the its sets up and interesting Day 2 battle with Lee & Flintoff.....

Btw did the channel 4 or SKy sports camera's show the Manchester United players who were at the game today???

Lovely to see the Aussies dropping catches and not England. I think England aren't doing badly because I'm beginning to think the Aussies are very prone to collapses.

Just watching the highlights - I noticed the Strauss dismissal was a fractional no-ball.

I think the back foot drive towards the pavilion early in his innings (the one which one of the aussies decided to play football with) was as good if not better.

i was impressed with england today.....really stood up to warne and made it look like they were there for keeps not just for christmas.

dissapointed with kp, but the good thing is he wasnt best pleased with himself either...i expect big things next innings.

i maintain that england will probably collapse to around 450.

bell and vaughn on form.....pretty damn fine.

Gilchrist's performance was a shame, seesm to be like he was wearing buttered gloves. He's probably one of the lowsiest keeper around
conveniently forgetting all the solid performances he's been putting in for years?

I've never rated Gilchrist particularly highly for his 'keeping - it's his batting that makes him great.
Indeed it is, but he can keep. You cannot even suggest that he can't or you're an idiot

It is refreshing isn't it, shows they also have bad days in the field.

Yep I noticed a few no-balls today too, not surprising really these two umpires are pretty ordinary. Bowden even called Warne, when it was clear from the replay that he had not over-stepped.

Bring back Dar asap, preferably with Taufel.

Thought he was an Aussie?

Gilchrist is the not the best keeper in Australia. But he is a damn good one and more than makes up for it with his batting. He had a superb first two Tests IMO and has had one bad day. Get off his case

i must admit, as a bell doubter, he made me look quite stupid by his performance today. Looked the real deal.....
I watched him till tea then from when Vaughan got dismissed and have to agree.

Apparantly he had a rotten patch in between all that though.
