I completely agree... what do you guys think of this article?
Chappell was a great captain and remains a great analyst.

However, he is constantly disparaging of latter day Aus teams' achievements because they reflect poorly on his 74-75 side.

Chappell needs to answer this question.

How effective would his attack of 74-75 be without Lillee and Thomson? The answer lies in the result of the sixth test of that same series.

The fact remains that recent Aus teams have had the benefit of 3 all-time greats - Warne, McGrath and Gilchrist. Naturally, should you take one or more from the line-up, the team will be weakened.

However, I agree (and have stated repeatedly here), that this team has not paid England sufficient respect.

There is no doubt that they have the ability to overwhelm England should they change their attitude.

The question is whether they can do so mid-series.

Could Ian Bell be the new Ramprakash? Scores loads of runs in county cricket, looks great scoring 20s & 30s in tests but not able to move and score big runs. He reminds me a bit of Ramps at the crease aswell looks very good technically but you just wonder about how strong he is mentally.

For my two penneth batting is about how many runs you score not how good you look scoring them. I hope Bell can get some big scores soon (Bangladesh doesn't count) or we may still be waiting for him to come good by the time the next ashes series rolls along.
TBF to Ramps he did average about 42 v The Aussies, so I'd say there's little chance of Bell being the new Ramprakash based on the first 2 tests! :p

I never thought I'd say this, but I hope Lee (or even better McGrath) is fit for the 4th test, as this bloke (Clark) shouldn't even be considered. I would hope if they weren't fit and Australia wanted to play 3 seamers they would play Tait. I hope the selectors haven't taken Tait 'just for the experience', because they should have learnt their lesson from India. Injuries can happen, and you need to have the next best available. I believe Tait is the next best available, and I hope he wouldn't be leap-frogged by Clark.

just had to quote this for the first sentence :D:D:D

i agree though, about Clark, hes not bad but not that good either - handy to have an extra bowler to face in the nets though ;)

Oh man, you can quote me on that forever. I would be much happier having Lee in the side over Clark. At least Lee has ability, he is just too dumb and gets too carried away with his pace in test cricket to use it (his ability) consistently. Clark on the other hand is a 'nuffie'.

In the papers over here this morning there is a suggestion that if Lee isn't fit, he is replaced by Watson and if the pitch looks receptive to spin MacGill will come in for Katich (!).

Langer
Hayden
Ponting
Martyn
Clarke
Gilchrist
Watson
Warne
Gillespie
Kasprowicz
MacGill

As Vaughn, I'd be laughing all the way to Trent Bridge if that's the line up.

Watson will get mauled if he plays.

Okay, tips? There's been a lot of other threads about the Ashes already, so most of us have already made them.

Mine is 3-1 Australia. They will go 2-0 up after 2 or 3 tests, England will get one back and have a hope of equalling it in the 5th, but lose that as well. Largely Australia will be in control of the series, but watch for at least one or two major batting collapses when Hoggard, Harmy and Flintoff get things right. Leading English batsman will be Strauss, Vaughan will do well while Thorpe and Pietersen will struggle, and watch for Flintoff to have one brilliant century and struggle for the rest of the series. Leading English bowler will be Hoggard, who will do the hard work throughout the series and come out of it averaging under 30, unlike the other English bowlers.

For Australia, Ponting and Martyn will dominate with the bat, Hayden will continue to have a rough time of it aside from maybe one knock, and Clarke will struggle early in the series but then come good. Gilchrist to hit a mandatory century as well. McGrath the leading wicket taker, followed by Warne... same old. Kasprowicz will do enough throughout the series to just keep Lee on the sidelines barring injury, and will terrorise the English left-handers with the odd spell, but won't have a great time of it.

Australia to go undefeated through the ODIs, with Lee and Symonds having an excellent run.
:p :p

or rather the opposite of everything u said. hehe
