Anyone in their right mind would prefer not reprisent their country if they know they're going to humiliate themselves and their country in doing so. So don't try bringing that one into it.
Err, no, most people would rather not play if they are going to humiliate themselves, however you have this bizarre warped idea that you understand the game better than anyone else (when some of your theories suggest you do not understand it at all), and thus because you feel a performance is poor means a bowler would be "humiliated" by it. On the contrary, I doubt anything Macgill has ever done in his test career has humiliated him. Only a very strange individual would be humiliated by being hit around as a leg spinner in test cricket. It's a difficult thing to do and Macgill is quite clearly in the top 2 or 3 best in the WHOLE WORLD at it. Why would be be humiliated by his inability to bowl leg spin?

agree....

At no point have I seen a player of test standard (ie a player who has played test cricket) be humiliated..and even if someone did play a test and get tonked about a bit, I dont think humiliation comes into it...he either accepts that maybe he wasnt good enough to play test cricket or (and most likely) he will be determined to do better next time

If everyone decided not to step up to the next level (ie club cricket to county to test etc...or even in everyday life) for fear of 'humilation' then I dont think we would be living in the world that we are doing today.

The closest I have seen to humilation on the cricket pitch is that Boswell guy who bowled about 8 wides in an over, and then make a pigs ear of his fielding in a Lords final a few seasons back....even then I am sure he was proud to have played for his county in a Lords final, and indeed played an integral part in helping his team get to the final by taking 4 wickets in the semis.

This humilation thing, along with his assertion that the English batsmen are CLEARLY better than the core of the Australian batsmen furthers my thought that Richard is pretty clueless about the game

It's been obvious for ages that Richard knows much, much less about cricket than he thinks he does, but don't you find his bizarre theories mildly amusing at least? I find they open up whole vistas of absurdity which less talented loonies never manage to evoke.

Cheers,

Mike

Yep...I find them VERY amusing....although it is a fine line between amusing and laughable

i know martyn used to be poor againts spin early in his carrer but since when Katich has been poor againts spin?
Since before he joined NSW by the sounds of things.
He was certainly poor against it in 2000 and he was still poor against it in 2003. Then he joined NSW in 2003\04 and certainly he was a very good player of spin by the time he played at The SCG against India and toured Sri Lanka.

not really the only real drop catch was when he was dropped by some joker by the name of Sanghvi at cover off the bowling off Tendulkar when i think he was already passed a hunderd but i am not so sure , while the other one was a difficult running catch that Bandani didn't even get a hand on.

so i dont know where all these drop catches you are talking about came from
He was on 64 at the time of the Badani one and the Sanghvi one was immidiately after.

what about multan 2004, didn't saqlain play thier has well?
He played, and if you call that pitch a turner you need your head examined.
It was about as flat as it's possible for a pitch to be.

It's difficult, exactly - and even MacGill, who is amongst the best in The World, still can't bowl it to anywhere near Test-class.
And no, he hasn't been humiliated in his Test-career - find me where I said he had. I was speaking HYPOTHETICALLY, pointing-out that your "all that matters is playing for your country" thingy is a waste of typing.
So what if MacGill would have preferred to play than not play? It still doesn't change the fact that he benefited by having a disjointed career before Dec02.

Exactly, which is why I was talking hypothetically.
If you or me played Test-cricket, however, we would be humiliated - that was the point. Not that no-one should ever step-up a level of cricket.
I was providing debunktion to the "anyone would want to reprisent their country" bit.

Nope, not at all, you've said I'm pretty clueless about the game with regards to many things besides before now.

You can keep telling yourself that all you want, does it make you feel good to get that idea? Can't think of any other reason why it'd be so important to tell us all this useless, flawed information.

You MUST be joking.
So... Vaughan and Thorpe have the blatant weaknesses against seam and spin that Hayden and Gilchrist respectively have, and Langer to an extent has both?
Gilchrist is more destructive, Hayden is a better flat-track bully, by far, than either - but they both have straightforward weaknesses that Vaughan and Thorpe don't have.

the thing is that now, a hell of a lot of people on here think the same as I do about your 'theories'....I get the impression from many on here that really your posts arent taken to seriously (bar the odd post, like the one you posted earlier on today about boundary shortening, back to back tests etc)...I think people only reply to you coz they are bored, and like to encourage you to make a bigger fool of yourself than you already have...and you normally take the bait, which I find highly amusing...thats why the depth of my amusment grows with each one of your posts

In which case you're very mistaken about most posters... except idiots like that piscine, but we all know about that anyway.
You said you'd lost all respect for me over that anti-***ism stance you objected to, too - how long's that lasted?

all that anti-***ism stuff (I think you are talking about the 'its alright to punch a girl etc') has nowt to do with cricket.

But the number of people who must have the collective eye brow raised to almost all of your post seems to be growing by the day
