England are louder and appeal more vicerforously and regularly than anyone else, regardless of whether it's out or not.

Eventually the umpires end up bowing to the pressure and making an error.

I've seen Giles get A LOT of ridiculous decisions in his favor, against Windies in England and then some even worse decisions in Sri Lanka. Darryl Harper was giving out to anything that hit the pads or was caught close.

I think umpires end up feeling sorry for him because he can't earn many wickets, whereas Warne gets alot of undebatable ones through his own skill and merit so the umpires do not treat him fairly when it comes to making LBW or close catch decisions.
Thank you for that, I know to ignore anything you say as being Scallywag Mark II. :p

I mean honestly, if you actually believe what you are writing then you need to watch more cricket mate.

I always thought that Flintoff would get exposed as a test batsman against australia. Its easy to look good against crappy bowlers. I dont expect him average over 20 this series with the bat.

Is that the average for Warne's wickets or just overall against Aus?
its his average against australia with warne in the side.
and its actually 15 tests actually, warne didnt play in the first test in 98-99, but it doesnt affect his average.

its a problem against spinners really, so i wouldnt be surprised if he struggled in the subcontinent as well.

Are any of the AUssie fans nervoud that pietersen is still there?

This guy seems to have a bit of genius about him.

The main thing I've noticed is that it's not even as if he's been a bit lucky since he's come into either form of the game. (OK so todays full toss LBW aside)

He seems REALLY hard to get out. A number of his dissmissals have been due to slogging with reckless abandon when left with the tail. I've rarely seen him get away with a false stroke, or streaky edge etc.

I can legitimately see him batting through once again in this match so Australia had better get the others out qucikly.

Not really. I always fancy our chances against guys like him. He has a bit of class about him but hes still essentially a hitter more than a batsman imo. Those type of guys are generally too risky and dont hang around long enough, although sewang might have something to say about it. Hes a freak though, so pietersen will have to do something extraordinary to be classed in that category.

Man of the match anyone? I think Mcgrath, a good all round effort by the big man
Harmison has done as much in terms of wickets as the other big man? Just a thought as it's unlikely MOTM will go to the losing side.

For sheer optimism, that orchestrated appeal today when Lee's bouncer clipped Pietersen's shirt collar (with his hands at least a foot away) took some beating.

Poor old Brett looked as hurt as that other unfortunate (Murali) does when he gets robbed by inept umpires in similar fashion.

Depends how tomorrow goes obviously. If Warne takes the next five wickets then I'd give it to him.

But at this stage, Mcgrath. He played an important role with the bat too and was 20 not out don't forget.

We've needed some of your dry wit this weekend Eddie, not a good period for England. :(

At the moment I'd go with McGrath too (despite the fact that I'm an obviously biased Pom and would normally go for Harmison).

His spell on Thursday afternoon single-handedly dragged Australia up by the boot-straps. Unfortunately I only saw the highlights package (having spent the day at the Eden Project) but it (the bits I saw) was just about the best opening spell I have seen by anyone in the last 10 years - absolutely brilliant.

Thanks for the compliment.

Been on my holidays to Cornwall - had absolutely fantastic weather, which I predicted, incidentally. Now if I can just engineer 2 days of rain, pestilence or a plague of frogs...

(not that I've anything against the French)

pietersen is having a great batting debut, isn't he? although he would have wanted his team to be in a better position.... :)

He's obliged to, considering the dropped catches, two of which were dolly's and the other one you would probably expect to take more often that not as well.

Good to see your predictions have got over their Harbhajan issues.

Two shots he played in the match had me absolutely drooling with one word on my lips - 'Viv'.

The straight six off Glenn McGrath on Friday reminded me of what Richards did to Mike Hendrick (a bowler with similar control to Glenn McGrath and just as difficult to get after) and the slapped cover drive on the up off Warney which raced to the boundary was utterly contemptuous.

I'm not sure whether 'hitter' is an apt description of Pietersen (someone else said that a while ago) - I'll not get too carried away, though. Rash predictions have a habit of coming back and haunting members here.
