Why is it not fair to bat him anywhere in the top 6? He has said himself several times that he considers himself a top order batsman, and did it with success for Tasmania, and last season for Qld. The selectors know what Gilly can do, and so does the captain (who I assume selects the batting order unless he was pressured by the selectors) why not see what Watson can do, considering the game situation it would have been more beneficial to send Watson in, then it were to have him come in at 7 and have to score quick runs.
Yes i agree that he is a more than good enough to bat in the top 7 for Australia in ODI cricket, but look at there are blokes like Gilchrist, Hayden, Ponting, Martyn, Symonds, Clarke & Hussey their so who are the selectors going to drop to place him in the top 7 at the moment???

I was talking about that 1 test match. Not as permanent replacement, he is not ready for Test Cricket yet.

Fair enough, if he backs it up again this season, I will eat my words. But, personally I can't see it.
I'm willing to put up some money that you will eat your words after next season :p

Never been there. Queenslander born & Bred (sp).

Although I've heard that they are the worst kind, no?
So Queenslanders are tight-fisted gits too, then?

I ask because the first word or phrase any Yorkshire child ever says apart from 'Dole Office' is 'How much? I'm not paying that!'.

It's true. As opposed to Lancastrians who say 'Got any spare change?'

I heard something similar comparing people from Glasgow and people from Aberdeen; if you are invited to a house populated by Glaswegians, the first thing they'll ask is "So, have you had some dinner?" whereas an Aberdonian will say "So, you've had your dinner then?" with the inference obviously that now they won't have to feed you.

My Nana told me that and she's from Glasgow. Hmmmmmmmmmm......................

if he plays for australia now something is wrong but he had a good season for the blues recently & he he keeps up the good form in the next couple of years he could well have a shot in the middle order, but still early days....
...by which stage he would be past 30?

Thornley ain't no spring chicken.

How many runs does Thornley have to make next season then? 900?

Keeping in mind that he made a quarter of his runs for the season just gone in one freakish occurrance.
