Ponting bowling would have done betterandyc said:Who cares? 5 wickets is still 5 wickets, and it's 5 wickets that none of the other bowlers were getting.

I would have agreed with you before the South African tour about the decline. However, I think Australia have really got a good future going.SJS said:Of course Australia isnt going to lose to Bangladesh (??) but for Australian fans to feel that this is just an aberration or because Australia are tired at the end of a long season is to stick the head in the sand like the famous big birds.
The declining force that the Aussie attack is has been in evidence for quite sometime now and should have been anticipated.
This is only an indicator of worse to come. Batting cant help them keep the "undisputed" (mind the emphasis) number one position for long. For that a potent attack for all conditions is a must and this side is looking increasingly bereft of one.
An Australian fan doesnt have to admit it on a forum like this if it causes heartburn but to deny it even in your own contemplation is....well....ostrich-like
Lets just forget all about South africa shall we?SJS said:Of course Australia isnt going to lose to Bangladesh (??) but for Australian fans to feel that this is just an aberration or because Australia are tired at the end of a long season is to stick the head in the sand like the famous big birds.

If only Shane was fit...
Did you miss the three series since the Ashes? Obviously Australia are quite aware that without McGrath and Warne they will have a weaker attack, but several players, most notably Brett Lee (who is bowling miles better than he ever has before) have stepped up and filled the gap reasonably well so far. The fact is, people were making doom and gloom predictions about the Australian attack a year ago, and since then Lee has led the attack and averaged about 25, and Clark has played his first series and averaged in the teens and bowled very well. McGrath has been out of form or missing ever since, and Australia have still won 8 out of 9 tests without Warne playing a particularly major role.SJS said:Of course Australia isnt going to lose to Bangladesh (??) but for Australian fans to feel that this is just an aberration or because Australia are tired at the end of a long season is to stick the head in the sand like the famous big birds.

But Symonds isn't in the starting XI...FaaipDeOiad said:This isn't just an aberration, or just because Australia are tired, it's a combination of many factors including unhelpful conditions, some excellent batting and a bit of a hangover (particularly before lunch on day 1) after a big series just a few days ago.
Love those full tosses and half trackersTrigger_Tiger said:I was gonna say McGill would get 8, but refrained from doing so :P, he was awesome, simply AWESOME !!!!!~~~~~
Of course it isnt. Nothing ever is. But an end of an era of complete and unfettered Aussie domination... yes, it is.FaaipDeOiad said:What it certainly isn't is the end of the world.
South Africa must be in real trouble thenSJS said:Of course it isnt. Nothing ever is. But an end of an era of complete and unfettered Aussie domination... yes, it is.
And nothing to be ashamed of if it is. Its been a great run.
