Spinners in general do. Not many spinners really regarded as great fielders at all.

Quicks used to be like that. It I think since the Windies in the 70s and 80s that changed a bit. Lee was excellent. McDermott too. Johnson. Anderson is very good. Garner was awesome in the gully, Pollock a good fielder etc etc.
Kapil too. And don't forget the Trent 'the White Akram' Boult.

250 seems to be about aus breaking point target wise, another 20-30 odd will put the target beyond aus capability in this track

What a fightback from Australia. Now we'll see what this "new" BD team can do as they encounter a little pressure for the first time in this game. If these last two wickets can get another thirty runs I guess they'll be confident. But if they fold quickly then the Aussies will be right up for this.

A more even session this.

I still don't feel same with 250. It's the Smith factor. If he gets going, he has enough people to form a partnership with to get them over the line. Im worried BD will fold mentally if they can't get him out and the Aussies start working that target down steadily...

Good session for Australia given the state of the game and being a bowler down, but they're a long way behind in this.

I presume Bird plays next test now Haze is injured. They won't risk him. Will Cartwright be considered at three I wonder? I know he bowls pies but he can trundle a few down and will probably score no fewer than Usi in the SC.

Roger Harper - agree
Viv Richards - part timer at best. As much an off spinner as Brett Lee was really a batsman
Ekanth Solkar - fair
Martin Guptil - spare me. Wouldn't get a bowl in a Chinese restaurant
Andrew Symonds - batsman who bowled off spin half the time, mediums the rest
Suresh Raina - batsman who bowls a bit. Too rotund to be genuinely a great fielder
Yuvraj Singh - part timer at best
Mark Waugh - became an offie when his back got hurt (the only time any one should resort to off spin tbf)
Tillakaratne Dilshan - opening batsman and part timer
Sobers - no. Batting all rounder who bowled pace as often as spin, and wristies as often as finger spin. Was also left handed so not an offie.

That's two legit offies who are legit great fielders. Since 1877.

I thought Solkar was a medium pacer who used to send down a couple of overs to take the shine off the ball before India's spin trio took over. Hence Boycott's embarrassment at getting out to him a few times at the start of the 1974 season. Maybe he bowled off-spin too?

Swann was pretty sound in the field.

yea look, if we're shifting goal posts and just talking about 'exceptional in one role' kind of fielders, then Ashwin is pretty good at slip, Giles and Paul Harris were good in gully, Boje was a very good outfielder, Venkat of the spin quartet was an excellent close in fielder, Lyon is a good fielder, the list goes on and on.

Also teams throughout history play 3 fast bowlers (cuz they break easily) and just 1 spinner. You're going to get more names in the fast bowlers list simply due to sheer numbers and nothing else.

This undue discrimination against finger spinners needs to stop #FingerSpinBowlersMatter

Yeah Swann used to field in the gully at times didn't he? I recall him being pretty decent as well.

Really? He came here in 96 and looked like his feet were in blocks of concrete.
Iirc he used to be in the gully and took some awesome catches. I only saw him 2000 onwards, even later in his career was one of the safest catchers and had a great arm despite reduced athleticism.
