Would have to agree, fitness permitting Cummins and Pattinson are pretty much locks IMO, Starc v Haze is a properly tough choice. Would probably narrowly lean towards Starc as I always tend to like having a left armer in the team.

Jhye Richardson would have been there or there abouts too, but it seems like he still has a fair way to go before being back to full fitness

Shattering about jhye, he was really starting to look the goods. Wouldn't have had Starc OR Haze if he was fit tbh

The other advantage to having Starc in the test side is the foot marks he leaves for Lyon.

Starc took 10-fer in his last test, didn't he? I know that was a while ago, but that + lots of wickets at the World Cup means I can't see him missing out. Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Pattinson gets injured before the ashes anyway, poor guy seems to have no luck in that regard

Didn't realise Richardson was injured - a shame, as from what I know of his bowling he'd be a good fit for English conditions

0/203, Harris a century. Burns 88.

I am not sure whether that says more about the bowling, the pitch or the batting, but making runs can never be a bad thing. It is good to see Burns making runs after his problems and should put him in a good position to make the Ashes squad as the 3rd opener.

Aus' problem is outside of the best 5-6 players they have 15-20 who are all about equally as good and pretty much interchangeable in terms of how good they would be

Sussex attack doesn't exactly look fierce, Hamza is alright, played a test against the main team in the UAE, wasn't great then but has a hax Pakistani domestic record. Rest of the attack looks crap, gentle mediums and non turning darts

Burns 133, Harris 109, Pattinson 4-60, Holland 3-49.

Looks like these 4 have earned some nice Ashes squad selection points

I think games like this against not-really-FC-standard opposition are much more like warmups than selection trials. Sussex have picked two decent batsmen and one decent bowler. It's good for players to do well against them but it probably won't be thrusting many players into selection given they've all performed against much better opposition to get here.

The game against England A will rightfully count for a bit though.

That will be a much more serious match especially as there may be spots in the England test side available to those who perform well for the Lions side. It will then be very interesting to see who is picked to play against Ireland.

I agree that these games are not the best given the continued resting of players from the county sides, but they can only perform against what they are given.

I would think that Burns and Harris centuries would have earned more points than Patterson 4, Head 34 and Pucovski 13 though.
