Seems like they may have finally found the basis of some sort of attack, though I'm not likely to hold my breath.

Head to head is so much better for the fan than having to look up a table for the third decimal place. It makes it so much simpler for the teams. If there's a team that has a chance of ending up the same as yourself, just make sure you don't lose to them. That's it. Easier said than done, but elegant, nonetheless.

Makes sense. However, it ignores the fact that we are not actually after simplicity, we are actually colossal nerds and love the needlessly complicated speculation about group permutations. That's why we're really in favour of NRR, and anyone who claims otherwise is lying.

One thing I like about NNR is that it makes otherwise one sided, boring games, have a much more important point. When a team has to win by a certain margin, or even not lose by a big margin, it adds another spectacle to the game. Sometimes if the result is obvious 10 overs into the second innings it gets incredibly pointless and boring. NNR usually makes this far from the case.

Edit: Oh and congrats to Bangladesh. When I saw they were 40/1 to win the tournament I thought it was perhaps a bit unfair. Good to know I wasn't just being over optimistic.

Right, but couldn't one argue why have a knock-out at all when you can just award the trophy to the team that performed the best overall? Why is a knock-out stage (which is essentially a head-to-head tie breaker) fair?

Yeah you can actually, you can probably have a tournament where the table topper is the one who wins it all. But I guess knock outs are much more fun and practical (otherwise you'd have all teams playing against each other, which would take forever). And knock-outs are fair because they're fixed before the tourney even starts. And there are no points in the knockout stages.

Regarding net run rate vs. head-to-head, I had no problem with it when it was going to help India in the 2007 World Cup (if we beat Lanka we'd have topped the group) and when it was going to help India in the CB Series (If Australia beat Lanka we'd have played finals) so I don't have a problem with it now.

Just seems Lanka continue to **** us over one way or the other.

for me the tournment ended when Pak lost to india...they couldn't freaking defend a target of over 300 runs.. i am the old style of fans..I can take pak losing to any team but India.. wining this cup will not be the same if pak couldn't defeat india.. So I much rather Bang win.
