He thinks it's perfectly legitimate to lazily walk in and question someone's honesty (based on what? Nationality?). Buffoonery of highest order.

Looks to me like it's because India have been knocked out. Nobody was moaning about H2H being the separator before the Tournament started.
rofl, or it could be the fact that people weren't aware of it? This head to head thing seems like something they've just put in, I've never seen it come in any tourney previous to this (well the CB series but that was also very recent).

Alright everyone please settle down. As always, if you have a problem with a post, report it to the mods and let us handle it. It is not OK to throw out insults yourself.

Head to head is so much better for the fan than having to look up a table for the third decimal place. It makes it so much simpler for the teams. If there's a team that has a chance of ending up the same as yourself, just make sure you don't lose to them. That's it. Easier said than done, but elegant, nonetheless.

Would I be right in saying that Australia wouldn't have made the '99 WC final if the semi-final tie was decided on NRR? Not trying to make a point here, just curious.

Yes, that's right Joe. The top four were tied on points after the super sixes in 99 WC. South Africa was 1st and Australia was 4th. But Aus had beaten SA earlier, and therefore they progressed. I found it unfair back then too. I also remember that the rule was changed for 2003 WC (because it was deemed unfair to SA) where H2H wouldn't have been considered if a similar situation had arisen.

But didn't Australia have a better NRR than South Africa. Because I remember they showed a graph with a NRR comparison when Donald got out.

Doesn't matter, playing better cricket overall is more important then just against 1 team. If in a WC one team hammers all other teams bar one, and that one team just about scraps to the point where only one of the two teams can go through to the next stage, ur telling me that the team who only just about won there matches gets to go through? Doesn't work for me, sorry.
What about in a knock-out then.

Team A hammers their opponents in the quarter and semi finals.
Team B scrapes through.

By your logic the final shouldn't take place.

Haha what? Knock-outs don't need factors other than a win or loss to decide who goes through, they're called knock-out matches for a reason.

Right, but couldn't one argue why have a knock-out at all when you can just award the trophy to the team that performed the best overall? Why is a knock-out stage (which is essentially a head-to-head tie breaker) fair?
