Smith (like Hayden and Ponting) has done some damage to young Australian batsmen because so many copy his style but aren’t geniuses

The irony is that what producing the best test players is not the same as what sort of cricket is most entertaining at international level. Flat pitches, big scores, lots of draws actually seems to make better players. Batsmen get lots of time in the middle, bowlers have to develop more tools.
Yeah I love the spicier wickets we're seeing for Tests in Australia but they're even spicier in the Shield and I think it should be the opposite.

In last 3 tests Marsh made 20 runs and bowled 16 overs. After 4 sessions of his test debut Webster has already bowled 13 overs and is 28* 😆

The good thing for Aus is that this thing doesn't show any meaningful signs of flattening out so a one-innings shootout should still be viable, if they can make it that
I favor India in that scenario a bit. Especially if the pitch cracks a bit.

many people have been saying
They have been but it's hard to square with the general derision of FTBs and HTBs which tends to go unquestioned.

The best teams in history were built off guys piling up runs in home/flat conditions, one or two generational talents who could adapt to foreign conditions, and a battery of fast bowlers. The main thing cricket hasn't quite figured out yet is sane horses-for-courses selection policies for batsmen.

Skull the third commentator this morning to say Bumrah may be the best bowler of all time….

Is that a thing? Dude only has 200 test wickets 🤣
On the ABC the other day, they were still debating if he’s India’s best bowler ever, if he’s done enough to surpass Kapil. The answer was no, because he doesn’t have enough wickets. So in some people’s eyes, he’s still not close to even being India’s best bowler.

I get longevity as an important factor but this is just silly surely
