Whatever it takes!!!
I'm sure I've seen a batsman like that before but I can't remember who it was. Just couldn't score at all against a semi-defensive field, but always got to 50 because opposing captains thought it would be unmanly to start with a conservative field.
Their names are Sehwag and Slater and it is the reason they never really cracked ODI cricket.

That session has taken an England win off the table. Draw is favourite but I reckon we can create 8 chances in 2 sessions

I guess England’s win out of the equation now unless Root stays there longer even so will be difficult. Hameed is too slow

That was a very fun session to watch! I love how obviously Warne wants England to lose, he was furious about that LBW decision not being overturned.

Why are you surprised after Hameed's shot and the earlier almost run out? Hameed does not look settled out there. You guys just have to hope he does not take down Root with him.
I'd missed that passage of play. But Malan would have seen it and should have been alert enough to a repeat to tell him to ****ing well stay put. Hopefully Root will be.

I remember Sehwag as rotating the strike quite well in tests. I remember one game against Australia where Ponting set the field back early because India had a lead, and Sehwag went at like 4.7 an over while barely hitting a boundary. I think he mostly just went too hard in ODIs.

Slater is a great shout though.

Yeah, with Sehwag the trick was to cut off the boundary AND the single with guys in the circle.

India played much better that session but I think they’re probably a wicket short. Just hard to see where a flurry of wickets would come from.

lord has been mostly okay and has found movement. siraj is bowling 140+ cross seam and nipping it in. bumrah is bumrah and jaddu isn't easy to score off in these situations. if eng go for it, we win. simple.

Love the optimism but this is headed for a draw. A nice partnership will make us **** ourselves again for a while but 60 overs is not enough for 8 wickets on this once England decide to shut up shop.

Don’t we have more overs, light permitting?

That was a fun morning, but I suspect it will come unglued for England quicker than you'd think if this partnership and Pope don't do most of the work. Some power hitter types to come on a slow deck is just asking for catches in close in front of the wicket.

I hope I'm wrong though, because I'm nominally supporting England* in this series.

*I'm supporting all the bowlers (with the stick too - let's go engine room bois) and some batsmen, like Root, Burns, Pope, Rahul, Brohit and Rahane.
