Plenty of chat this week about the last couple of pitches and about what this one will do. Well, India have won the previous two on pitches that rag from day one so will probably produce something similar. I do think these pitches really bring England’s spinners into the game more, it becomes more of a lottery and allows non-specialist spinners, like Root, the chance to make an impact.

If I was India I’d be preparing a nice flat one nullifying the threat of our spinners, allowing their batsmen to go big in their own conditions.

As for any changes to the England side, Bess will almost certainly come back in if a similar pitch is expected, maybe Lawrence in aswell. Wouldn’t be averse to see Stone in either.

Yeah I'd have gone with a flat pitch too to completely nullify the opposition attack.

By preparing another result-oriented pitch (where match will finish inside 4 days), India has truly given England a chance to square the series. I'd have taken that away from them.

It's no more a lottery than playing in swinging or seaming conditions where you could get bowled out very cheaply, or could play and miss a couple of hundred times in order to get a half decent score! Thats what a lottery is.

Balls coming down at 140 km/hr and moving off the deck- give batsmen almost no time to react. At least when they are moving off the pitch at 90 km/hr you have a chance to react. Also, you can play to the pitch of the ball (completely forward) or step down the wicket (this also negates movement). At least it is entirely possible to do these things against spin bowling because it's far slower! So if you have the right 'technique' you can definitely score decent runs. But very few batsmen have a good technique for these conditions atm. But they will get better with more exposure! Kevin Petersen and Cook couldn't have amassed 500 runs on the red soil Mumbai track in 2012 if these kind of conditions are a 'lottery'. There were no complaints then because England were 'winning'.

Calling it a lottery is utter disregard and disrespect of sub continent cricket, which has gone on for too long! And now everyone is taking a stand against these biases and narratives that are always forced on the SC.

Loved Kohli, Ashwin and Rahane's comments. Fact is - Don't have the technique to play spin in spinning conditions and being exposed. Some Indian batsmen are called FTBs when they fail in England, likewise we are seeing a bunch of FTBs here who are moaning and groaning about pitches. They desperately need a flat one again to score their big hundreds and double hundreds.

One only cries about conditions when one is getting hammered! So all this crying is a clear sign and is what has made India prepare another turner haha. Learn to play to the conditions and may not need to cry again. That is what 'TEST' cricket is about!

Think you’re misunderstand my use of the term ‘a lottery’ which I think shows a lot of the Indian defensive nature about how dare anyone criticise an Indian pitch. When I said it becomes more of a lottery, I mean the result becomes a lottery as to who can win the Test!! India for me are effectively letting England into the game and giving us more of a chance of a positive result than if a flat deck was prepared.

I appreciate you come to India and you’re going to be faced with such decks. I think it’s unfortunate that we finally get decent crowds in to watch cricket but get a pitch that ensures the Test won’t last the distance, but India have done what they need to to win, fair enough. Not sure where you’re getting all the moaning about the pitch from based on my post.

It was still a poor pitch, but the only ones really still going on about it are the ones trying to claim it wasn’t.

Anyway I’m going for an Indian win in three and a half days unless Root goes big.

Yes India start as big favourites, based on a lot of comments and thoughts about the English batting technique it’s hard to imagine they can reverse that in the space of a few days.

The pitch was poor, but when you’ve lost such comments and opinions are forbidden as it gives the impression of a very sore loser, apparently.

Just want to see two innings last long enough for the second new ball. It can all go to hell in the second half of the match but let the seamers earn their pay.

Whatever it takes!!!
Honestly think the lack of the extra lacquer that made the balls come on faster off the pitch wll help the batsmen here. At least the Indian batsmen for sure.

nah **** them. No one cares if spinners earn their pay in SENA. They can learn to bat if they want a gig in India. India should go full meme and select Thakur in the XI

No Stone is a bit disappointing. Understandable as England need batting depth but he's such an exciting prospect

Lawrence and Bess come in for England at the expense of Broad and Archer, so should add some batting depth and strength to the side. Just one specialist paceman selected in Jimmy, with Stokes to support, England clearly expecting a similar pitch as to what we’ve seen in the last couple of Tests.

Yes agree, I was expecting he’d get the nod ahead of Archer and that Lawrence would come in for Bairstow or Pope. England obviously want to strengthen the batting depth, Lawrence offers another part-time spin option too.

Big toss to win.

Bet the pitch plays flat and England pile on 500+ here. India to lose this game but qualify for the WTC final anyways thanks to ICC shenanigan's

wasting no time in burning a review here

Ishant's whole thing is pace and bounce with some swing
Crawley is a tall man
Hit him above the knee roll on the front foot with a brand new ball

Terrible review. Completely unnecessary

Yes looked high at first glance, as you say, Ishant gets good bounce especially with a new ball, average review that one.
