tbf, the conditions are awful for him

He bowled a ball to Smith that would’ve been a regulation slips chance in India but Steve just bunted it back with zero footwork

Wouldn’t have been surprised if Smith had said “not in India now” because he was done completely
You’d think an ATG who’s always been picked across such a diverse range of conditions would be able to…. Never mind

Did anyone else notice that Akash Deep was listed as Deep earlier in the day on the bowling card but it randomly changed to Akash by the end of the day
I didn't notice that, but I have noticed that heaps of India fans on the forum always refer to him as Akashdeep even though it does seem to be two distinct names.

I've seen bigger blunders where Donald got labeled as 'right arm medium' in an ODI game during SA tour of India 2000.

Getting 98 overs in the day was a pipe dream. Between reviews and replays, India wandering about the field like Brown's cows, Smith holding up the game due to movement somewhere in the general direction of the bowler etc. etc. was never going to happen.
Just imagine if all 98 allocated overs were bowled. As Australia made 405 in 87th over they could have declared, that leaves India with 9 spicy overs to bat and then Aus bowlers start fresh again tomorrow with a 9 over new ball

India bowling slow to ensure a draw

Deep bowled well early and Siraj is generally good

Head simply played a great innings

That's correct. Conditions are now more and more against spin in Australia. It just has to be pace. Unless you are Warne or MacGill and can turn it square, there's going to be nothing in it for the spinners.

Nothing to do with Jadeja.

I like how noone has even attempted to get a mod to change Burgey's thread title. I thought a VSP would have been all over that.

Nope

Bounce gets people out in Australia and that’s why over spin like Lyon and wrist spin is the way to go

Side spin doesn’t work & rarely has

Last time India did well in 2017 with Kuldeep. He was injured for this tour unfortunately

He was India’s best bet

Quality

The fields set for Jadeja and Ashwin are also rubbish
Such a waste as it's a long series and having those two is a waste on these pitches apart from Sydney. Sydney - Ash is an automatic inclusion for it.

Jadeja leaked all the pressure of the tight bowling by the quicks and it was downhill from there.

This Test and Adelaide are how I expected the series to go... but if the forecast for the next 3 days is as bad as it looks then it will be all square going into Melbourne and India would still be a chance to keep the trophy in Sydney.

They probably would have taken that scenario at the start of the series.

I have an interest in a nursery and we have “the best” meteorological forecast system that money can buy

Forget about forecasts because they ain’t worth ****

400/7 after sending the opposition in isn't good enough.

Top effort from Bumrah though, as usual. If the game looks like it's heading for a draw due to rain, they obviously shouldn't bowl him again this test.

Whatever it takes!!!
Well, I watched us bowl for the first 3 hours today and then headed out. Great to come back to that scorecard, lol.

Genuinely feel for Akashdeep as inspite of the outside off and short of length stuff, he genuinely could have and probably would on other days get a 3fer at least for how well he bowled.

I think it was a combination of a great batsman rediscovering his form slowly as he went through his innings, a batsman in great form at the peak of his powers, a pretty good deck to bat on, a pretty old and soft ball in the 2nd session, and some unimaginative captaincy.

I am not sure about Rohit the batsman but I am definitely thinking Rohit the captain is now actively holding this team back. He was just shockingly poor today following the ball and no real set plans for most of the batsmen apart from "lets get Bumrah and Akash to bowl at them".

Obviously, the only reason Jadeja gets picked overseas before Ash is the fact that he is a far better batsman. But there is also the way he bowls which can be monotonous or metronomic (depending on your half-full/half-empty tilt) but the best part is if you give him a plan and ask him to stick to it, he would, all the live long day. The bowling into Head's pads was a fine plan. IT will tuck him up, the odd ball would go straight on and get the edge, Head hardly ever comes on the front foot, the lofted shots are tougher off that length and its hard to come down the track to Jaddu bowling at that pace. And yet, he kept moving fielders around off forcing Jaddu to bowl the wider lines. Just not good enough.

Australia obviously sitting pretty and its a competition between our batting and the rain to see who sucks more. :(
