Big Freddie's bowling has looked flatter every innings since the 1st innings in Brisbane. I wonder if its his ankle, the burden or doing the double or a mixture.

All of the above.

So how many #8's around the world would you say are all rounders?

Kumble? Warne?

#8 should be able to hold a bat, I don't know who expects an all rounder at #8. If they were an all rounder, they'd bat at 6 or 7.
Actually, Australia has a good allrounder for # 8, but they keep batting Warne above him :)

IMO, the # 6 position is ideal for the "batting allrounder" (e.g. Sobers, Kallis), the # 7 position is for the "genuine allrounder" (e.g. Miller, Imran, Botham, Flintoff), while the # 8 position is for the "bowling allrounder" (e.g. Davidson, Benaud, Hadlee, Akram, Vettori).....

The only problem is that there's just not many players in history that meet the above expectations

You've got it exactly right, so England should stop batting Flintoff at #6 because he is definately not a batting all rounder.

Yep. I've been stating all along that Freddie at # 7 makes England a much better team and this would have been my England XI for this test...

Strauss (Capt)
Cook
Bell
Collingwood
Pietersen
Joyce
Flintoff
Read
Harmison
Hoggard
Panesar

Why don't England have a bunch of slips with the new ball? Hussey dropped by Strauss, but would have been easily caught if he was standing at first slip and not a floating slip.

Interesting fact...highest run chase ever achieved at the WACA is 342...Australia currently 333 ahead with 7 wkts and 2 1/2 days left...

Freddie and Harmy are going to have to pull a Botham & Willis ' 81 miracle to win this one :)

Edit: now Aussies 360 ahead, so England would have to re-write the record books from here ;)

ha, you know the Ashes are gone when you see chances like that wasted. Another day the slip would have been closer & the catch would have be taken..

Hussey's 100...legend already

5th hundred in only 24 innings....oh yeah, his average now 91.29 which is closing in on "the Don".....insane

Out for 103. Not his best innings, and certainly not chanceless, but deserved his century, that's for sure.

Panesar has a great ability to get wickets from nowhere. Looks the goods.

Hussey's a freaking gun. Pity he got out when he did, that partnership was looking very dangerous. Clarke, meanwhile, keeps impressing, hopefully a sign of things to come.

With Aus 386 runs ahead, how long do you think Ponting will keep it going.

I think he'll bat until either all out or 600 ahead by Lunch tomorrow :)
