*Official* 3rd Test at the Sardar Patel Sports Complex, Ahmedabad, 24 - 28 Feb 2021

Whatever it takes!!!
FTR I think the Pujara one was clean, so fine, but the third umpiring has been ordinary all series hasn't it
Definitely ordinary in Chennai and I guess it maybe so here too, I agree he could have looked at more angles but if he was convinced it was grassed, that was it, wasn't it? And unlike Chennai, here we have had the right decisions made, so maybe that makes it easier for me to let go of the umpire not viewing more angles here.

Norwood's on Fire
England are not a very good test team. I know some commentators like to talk them up as one of the top teams in the world - but they're nowhere near. A couple of good recent series wins in SA and SL doesn't mitigate this
They have the potential to be very good imo, but that's all it is - potential
We have a few of the top players, and if they don't fire the mediocrity of the next layer is exposed for all to see

They play a lot a tests per year compared to other teams... so sample size

No you can't but my issue is he spent 5 minutes looking so he could give the earlier one and hardly looked at this one. That is wrong.
As I said above I don't think the two are comparable. I personally don't have a problem with the third umpire thinking the first replay is conclusive as, well, I also thought that first replay was conclusive. In some of those angles of the Pujara catch, you literally couldn't see the ball at all.

As much as I like watching Gill bat, I also love that the sheepish look he used to wear after getting dismissed, as if to say to the bowler "you may have got me but it was my mistake, not your skill that got me out"...that look's being progressively wiped off this series. It was there when Anderson pouched him off Archer in the first Test, but he's been in a real scrap since. A little lesson in humility if you will.

All this discussion about index finger underneath the ball is mind****ing me. The ball touched the ground ffs, what does it matter if he had his entire body under it?
Is it out if your fingers are splayed under the ball, which means you've netted it but some portion of the ball might be in contact with the turf?

I agree. Foakes is a gem and they need to persevere with him. Pope and Crawley could be great players, and Stone, if managed correctly, could be a huge asset at test level. I can see him knocking over plenty of batting line ups

Bairstow should go for good

I mean I invite you to try that with a cricket ball and see if that's actually possible. My long-standing personal view is that if you've got the ball nestled in the "scoop" of your fingers and palm then it's a physical impossibility for it to be touching the ground and those should always be given out.
