I actually thought in real time it had been dropped until I saw Stokes claiming the catch, it just looked like the ball got lost, having seen the replays I think the same as well

Whatever it takes!!!
Amazingly, Ben Stokes is nowhere near the umpires there, neither is Root after the initial complaining. Broad and Anderson are still carrying on like idiots though, come on. At worst, it is a 50-50 decision, and to carry on like this is worse than whatever Virat did last game.

It's hilarious.

He literally grassed it. That ball saw more grass than Snoop Dogg does in a year. Not out.

Bottom line, it might well be not out but the relative diligence for the two close catches speaks for itself
Both soft signals were out and the 3rd umpire spent more time trying to find if the ball was dropped with Pujara inspite of the angles not being conclusive. I agree the 3rd umpire was poor in Chennai but you are just projecting here.

It's not just time though is it mate. The only reason he spent longer on the Pujara one was because they were waiting for an angle. He didn't give it the same level of diligence.

FTR I think the Pujara one was clean, so fine, but the third umpiring has been ordinary all series hasn't it

If there is dew, England are ****ed. If there is no dew, Rohit and Gill are ****ed against Anderson and Broad in these conditions with this ball. Will be an entertaining session either way. :)

In fairness, until the last few angles with the Pujara one you could barely see what happened at all.

Always good umpiring practice to take longer than you actually need to make a decision just so that everyone thinks you're actually thinking it through and not being biased.

Doesn't change a damn thing but the optics are better.
