***Official*** 2nd Test at the Adelaide Oval

Dalrymple has about as much hope of succeeding at the test match level as Nathan Hauritz ever did. If an ODI average of 37 while never even managing more than a 2fer doesnt say something about his wicket taking abilities, then surely an FC average of 43 does.

Pietersen isn't your average part-timer and Australia are playing him as well as they're playing Giles, so really Giles' role is defunct. Really may as well shove in another batsman and tell Pietersen to bowl some more offies in the nets.
That makes no sense IMO. Say whatever you want about Giles, but put him on a turner and hes 10x times more likely to take wickets than Pietersen is. However on a turner, Panesar is 10x times more likely to take wickets than Giles is. But on dead flat wickets none of them are particularly better than other.

England unable to follow up with their bowling I believe. They had a chance to get Australia all out under the follow on limit, but they blew it when Giles dropped Ponting. That was the turning point of the match I believe, and it really hurt England. This match is headed for a draw no doubt.
England have already improved on their bowling from the last test. Hoggard and Harmison are both visibly better bowlers this test than they were in the last one. Anderson however has been rubbish again. If they bowl like this for the rest of the series and pick Panesar they are quite likely to be extremely competitive.

Do you really live in Banglore? Do you support England? What nationality are you?

I don't understand why Gilchrist was sent into bat yesterday. They should have sent a nightwatchman in Lee and not waste Gilchrist...

And again thanks to channel 9 for cutting short the live coverage:@

Null & Void point considering he survived. It would've given England a huge boost though if he didn't come in as it would've been showing that he's lost the confidence from his Captain, or in his own ability.

Harmison was better than Brisbane for sure but never looked like taking a wicket to me (only watched the first 2 sessions though). Anderson's first spell yesterday was pretty good i thought, nearly Ponting LBW and got the ball to move about. Unfortunately he's really inconsistent

Harmison is overrated, just because he gets his line and length right it doesnt mean that he was going to take a bucketload of wickets as everyone suspected. However if he bowls like this, hes more likely to take wickets and cause problems(especially when the pitch suits him) than he was if he was bowling like he was at Brisbane.
As far as Anderson is concerned, i thought he bowled extremely poorly to Hussey, kept straying on the pads and bowling to full despite the fact that hussey is extremely strong in both those areas.

The hysteria over Panesar being a very, very poor fielder, is pretty much toothless as far as I'm concerned. He has dropped 3 catches (methinks anyway), and made a few t oo many fielding errors, but to leave him out simply because of that is ludicrous.
But it's not just that.

You cannot simply substitute Monty for Giles in that team because Hoggard at 8 would be stupidity.

I'd always assumed that if they replaced Giles with Panesar, they'd go in with four bowlers and not five. They effectively already have four bowlers anyway, with Giles' bowling.

Yes, so it's not a case of simply replacing Giles with Monty - there has to be another switch.

FWIW I'd have played Monty ahead of Anderson in this game - retain the 5 bowlers which I think we need with Flintoff still not being 100% fit.

Good batting by Clarke & Gilchrist. I though Gilly was getting a bit frustrated a bit recently but with Freddie out of the attack the pressure should ease off a bit.

Was technically out, but was only just clipping top of leg so there was a bit of doubt in all fairness.
