*Official* 2nd Test at Lord's

Norwood's on Fire
Inevitably I've noticed more often than not ,people only go "urgggh this pitch..." on CW when it's their country's bowlers looking ineffective. Just wait for two innings to be played, although the pitch might change plenty by the time England get a bat.
I don't think this has happened here tbh. More Aussies have called the pitch out than us lot.

Pontings analysis as an impartial commentator is 1000x better than his captaincy
Ponting has startled a lot of people with his commentary, his tactical knowledge has always been questioned by the less bright section of cricket pundits ( His captaincy ability was acknowledged by the voting panel for the greatest player of the 00"s which included many former captains.) and suddenly they see how good he really is. The confusion of seeing something that contradicts what they thought is causing a few bewildering moments for them.

I'll reserve judgement on Ponting's commentary until he's done it for a few years. Slater was a pretty good commentator to start off with and even Warne showed some insight in his first couple of commentary stints. Let's just say that neither of them held that quality together for long.

Yeah rate Punter's commentary, wish more diversity with the women commentating happened though. Get rid of some of the Boof heads
You want female commentators for test cricket? It's PC gone mad. I hate women commentators. There's one at CPL and I am like there are hundreds of ex-players they can use to tell us the action unfolding but we have a woman, for the sake of PC bull, calling the play. I cringe. This is not going to draw any new viewers, if anything it will serve to drive them away.

Using women for pitchside reporting/interviewing is fine.

He's not hired by Ch 9 though, so he has that going for him.

Also has been good in the big bash for awhile now.

To be fair, he could have saved 15-20 either way. Broad was hanging around up in that backward point/ third man region all day and all day he was running fruitlessly behind a never ending tide of late cuts from Rogers. Seemed odd Cook didn't just throw him on the rope down there, never seen Rogers milk that area so much and at the same time I've never seen him so comfortable in a Test.

Easy being an armchair captain, but throwing Broad down there would have at least made Rogers searching for the drive a bit more for boundaries, I think he only hit one through the covers for a boundary after that first hour, so easy was his game. Of course, I know nothing about cricket but it just seemed odd.
Yeah, most of that stuff happened from Rogers after I went to bed. The late cuts were only really off the spinner.

I don't think Punter has that same need to be a "lad" and prove himself as those two, to be fair. Much more comfortable in his own skin.

The chap that puts the names on the board at Lord's must have been gutted when he saw that pitch. He'll need to cancel that time off he had planned.

It's inevitable England are going to have days like today, this is not a complete Test team nor do they claim to be. The series against NZ offered encouragement in both the performance and with a victory in one of the Tests. The win in Cardiff has inflated the optimism around this side but consistency wise we have a long way to go thus such bumps in the road as today will occur throughout this series.
Very true. We are a work in progress, the thing is that when the pitches are this slow and have so little in them that the long batting line up we have should be able to save the game (particularly this one where the pitch won't break up) and move on to the next game still ahead. It probably won't happen like that but there is nothing to fear in regards what this attack would do if the pitch had some spice or pace in as it doesn't.

[If Australia declare and England are still batting on day 4 and the wicket isn't deteriorating, then we have a problem.]

Yeah, would be terribad if we had pitches like Adelaide.
Not saying the first couple won't will happen but there is a very good chance the pitch won't be deteriorating on day 4. Lord's hardly ever breaks up which makes it hard to see anything but a draw here.

Possibly. Was more of a generic statement tbh. People are far too quick to judge wickets without having seen the match unfold for a decent bit. Sure, I'd like to see the ball carry to the slips, but look at Cardiff. That pitch didn't have great carry either, but had a decent test match and a result was achieved easily. As long as the test match doesn't completely die within 2 and a half days, where we get 600 vs 600, I think the pitch is fine. People get too worked up with the lack of bounce=woeful pitch stuff.

To be honest we call Lord's out every year as we are fed up of it being a road more often than not. The fact we get it twice every summer doesn't help either.
