Silver in the kayak slalom for Adam Burgess who was, in an event normally decided by hundredths of a second, an astonishing 5.5 seconds behind the French winner.

Silver for Adam Burgess for GB in the slalom but he was some five seconds(!) behind the French winner. Home advantage is probably big in whitewater canoeing but impressive nonetheless.

Burgess did maybe lose a second or two on the penultimate split on an error, but even so the French athlete would have smashed it.

Didn't have the sound on at all, but I assume the French team have been practicing here for months?

Yeah, the French fella is number 3 in the world, so not an unexpected result. But the margin would suggest he knew the course like the back of his hand.

That cycling looked fun from the BBC highlights. Absolutely dreadful commentary from the BBC guy though.

EDIT: The shorter highlights on BBC website, it seems they've used the radio commentary.

The BBC coverage has been diabolical. Even now, when reflecting on the day there’s more talk about Daly than Pidcock or the eventers.

If you can, watch on Discovery where they’re at least using specialist commentators.

So Clare Balding was just ribbing the male presenter there (sorry I can't remember his name, but I think he did breastsroke), and saying that he probably had to carry a record player around with him when he was swimming if he wanted to listen to music.
To me the makeup comment was likely in a similar vain. You can't end peoples' careers over something like that, it's appalling.

To be fair, I think the live commentary on the BBC is usually pretty reasonable in terms of people who know what's going on, but there is way too much focus on a handful of people who they've decided are the people to focus on, and will have video packages for, at the expense of just trying to let sport tell the stories

Well done Tatjana :clapping: Awesome performance to win gold in a not favoured event. Hopefully another in the 200 🙏

Not only do we get a treat for the ears with the Italian anthem getting another outing, but a treat for the eyes as well. Ceccon is dreamy.
