I know, I'm not saying he's anything but a bandaid solution to the team's problems. More just noting the impact of his departure on the side. NZ are in dire need of a bowler who reacts to getting hit for a six not by panicking but by getting angry. Very much agree with strawman's assessment, this team is desperately in need of a dose of spittle.

Also I'm now all aboard the Sears train. Cho cho.

The bowler is Lockie Ferguson and he has been mismanaged like Ajaz, Wagner and the rest. Apparently sitting on the bench for weeks and going straight into a Perth test risks injury, who could have guessed?

Surely his bank balance is great now. Pull him out of dribbler cricket and use our player how we want. He should be playing county right now.

No, just useless. Also braindead as a captain. Daryl Mitchell is actually a very handy T20 bowler who knows how to bowl to restrict runs on small grounds. Didn't get a single over when everyone was getting smashed.
My man Daryl Mitchell is playing a Shane Warne 2005 Ashes-level series in a side getting beaten. Should definitely have bowled.

I've said this before but as much of a meme as radiosport was, it's demise was yet another removal of an avenue for fans to directly pressure media into holding NZC accountable.

Now we have what, ACC and Marty banks pages? They're on the establishment payroll (banks guy works for chiefs rugby).

The Saturday sports journos on newstalk can't keep it in their pants/fists to themselves etc

I didn't want to say it and get labelled I'm a child labour promoter  You read between the lines correctly.

For a starter look to make good use of Allen, Sears, Ravindra, Phillips, Nathan Smith, Rippon etc. Not all of them in every format but get them in now in their rightful positions. It could be white ball, red ball or mix of both. Like we did in the 2010s when Southee, Boult, Kane, Latham all started to come in. Maybe mostly use them in white ball and slide them into red ball whenever there is a requirement.

I can't see that happening unless they fire Stead, Larsen to start with and then change captain. Larsen and Stead won't be looking at anyone if they are under 30 it feels. Age has almost become a qualification with this management. Latham and Kane could also be the ones from not letting the management change squads. It's that trust they have in the players that have played with for a long time. It may be coming from the right place but it is not working. Last thing we want to see us go down in very format possible. I think we are approaching white ball cricket with the same mindset with borderline retirement players hoping they will do magic like they did in the past.

Lockie is over 30

I'm not dropping this. First high class genuine quick to get treated so poorly by a historically so lightly resourced side. It's insane how we've wasted him. Fleming would have murdered children for him.

Lockie is quality he will play another 2-4 years of international cricket no doubt about that but not in red ball. Have heard he's almost nearly settled for white ball cricket.

A major question mark yet to be answered by the management. It's also hilarious considering England has been crying out about all their genuine pacers being unavailable.

Was thinking this too. Mitchell is a death bowler in domestic T20's. He might've gotten mauled, but it would've been worth a go for an over or two after England turned on the automatic 6 cheat.

There is SENZ radio (ironically where McCullum was working before he got the England gig). No doubt Ian Smith would've been an angry man on the airwaves this morning.

Yeah, I think it'll be really hard to lure Lockie into tests. He's got 2, maybe 3 years to set himself up for life in T20's. If the Indian franchise owners had woken up to his value 4 years ago things might be different, but as things are, and given how many injury problems he's had over the past 2 years, I think he'll have chucked tests in the too risky basket.

The only way Ferguson, Sears, and others will get a decent crack would be through the retirement of senior players. There is a clique there who are great mates with a well established pecking order, and they can’t be upset. Even after all that these years Wags and Henry are still a bit like Ronnie Wood in the Rolling Stones, the eternal ‘new boys’ still. ‘The Glimmer Twins’ Mick and Keef run the show.

Ajaz treatment is unfathomable. Karma paying back it seems for the way they have used some players like rags. It was bound to catch up. Recent sacking of Neesham from contract for Bracewell before he's proved he's good enough to play at international is another case.

Make Young or Devon captain, neither have much affiliation to any of the current players and will be able to think clear.

Amen to all of this. Our selectors are just brain dead. How M Bracewell is even near a test squad let alone making the starting XI is actually unbelievable, especially ahead of Ravindra/Phillips but probably more Phillips.

Latham's minnow bashing has been rightfully questioned and I don't think he's answer to the captaincy, although I think NZ fans (myself included) are getting a bit overawed by Baz coaching England. I'd probably prefer Southee as captain compared to Latham. Also doesn't help with KW being out of the game for so long, I firmly believe part of the reason we have been meme-level bad lately is due to a lack of him around the group.

My ideal XI for the 3rd test (would never happen): Latham, Young, KW, Conway, Mitchell, Blundell, Phillips, Wagner, Southee, Ajaz, Boult.

Also, Mitchell been clutch this series after I've bagged him consistently for the last 12 months and tbh I'm not going to stop now given this form.
