McClenaghan was certainly a very effective wicket-taker in ODIs but in terms of his pace the only thing I remember was how disappointingly not fast he was. Henry was definitely faster during the times they overlapped. McClenaghan was sold to us as this "enforcer" and ended up being this canny white ball specialist who seemed to bowl a lot of slow junk and/or clever variations. Never *looked* as good as he actually was which probably detracted from the perception of him.
Look no further than his ODI debut in South Africa. I’m pretty sure Neesham made his debut in the same game but all game long we heard how McClenaghan was this enforcer type with pace, he averaged between 130 and 135 the entire game. Neesham on the other hand just strolled in and was bowling 140 plus ?

His only currency was his wicket taking, which got him to the fastest NZ player to 50 ODI wickets of all time and 82 @ 28 overall. Is also a hero in Mumbai. Whether he bowled a heavy ball, a weak ball, a bunch of rubbish balls or in fact his balls moved faster than the actual ball, he delivered a fair few times.

I remember McLenaghan was big on a kind of paleo diet and cross-fit training after various injury problems before he made the Black Caps.

Has Spark Sport now got a VPN blocker? I can’t seem to access any content all of a sudden.

If it’s not appropriate to discuss it here then could someone PM me? Cheers.

Nice one Finn you little beauty!
Ok it's only Scotland but still great for his continued development, let's hope he can keep going because NZ badly need a new young gun at the top
of the order in the short game.

Agreed. Finn Allen in our ODI side (I don't give a monkey's about our T20 one, really, but that too) is such an exciting prospect.

Have to feel a bit sorry for a guy who goes for 1-72 off 4

Fantastic from Finn. Looks like both him and bracewell are certainties for our WI tour's best 11. Done well against ireland and scotland. Good to see sears get a run, but unfortunately no speed gun available today.

12.1 half of the side is gone now! Cross goes for the sweep, but not enough elevation on it, held the catch at short fine leg by Sodhi 88/5

Getting swept, pace might not be as sharp as we're used to...!

For a long time he was literally the only person I had ever blocked on Twitter (I have very low standards). Just a complete and utter ****wit. I have to acknowledge that this probably creates a bias in how I assess him as a cricketer.

Is anyone qualified to comment on the relative popularity/strength of cricket in Ireland and Scotland? Just find it interesting that Ireland have test status but when you watch games in the respective countries it feels like the Scots get into it while in Ireland it’s 3 men and a dog. Also seems like with the popularity of other sports in Ireland that cricket would be further down the pecking order there.

Have tried to watch ball by ball and gave up.... Particularly the game vs scotland. It was shambles, there was no scorecard for long periods and looked a lot like club cricket feed on crichq. The graphics worked at some point in time but watching cricket without knowing the score is quite village. The entire scotland setting is like club cricket.

@thierry henry have watched every ball of Scotland and Ireland (call me stupid) so far and Ireland is miles ahead of Scotland. Scotland side looks like a good club side (sorry Scottish folks I don't mean to offend you). The ground dimensions are like 50 meters, the outfield could not be rated first class level (although the sun in recent months hasn't helped). I have to say it is a tough watch. Only spark sports are showing this and don't think any channel in UK or anywhere else is covering it. The camera work is very 80s and amateurish is written all over the broadcast.

The bloke that wrote the article on stuff must not have watched the game vs Scotland. He wrote Allen was dropped on 0, that is not true. Allen smashed the ball at the bowler who had to dive to his right (left arm spinner) and had to pull off a blinder. I wouldn't call that a drop. Guptill was caught at point when he was on nought off a no ball. That never made stuff article strangely.

Allen smashed it big time but the first 50 was a bit relaxed. The second fifty came in super quick time. Granted the ground was small and bowling not so great but hundred is a hundred any day. Particularly when it comes in 50 odd balls. Huge fan of Allen but the excitement got to be a bit tempered at the moment I guess considering we haven't had any serious games of late. West Indies would give us a reasonable look.

Runs off Lockie, Sears and Bracewell were not all legit. Some edged, some went over the keeper and short boundaries as I mentioned. More misses that went for fours and sixes than hits.

Can't blame lesser sides as they don't have the resources or the facilities to get better. Wonder how many grass decks there are in Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands.

Despite our unbeaten streak I'm not feeling good about black caps at the moment. We have been playing too much back to back against sides that are rated over 11 or over in the rankings table.. This is not helping us. West Indies may be of some use next month to tell us where we stand but I think the back and forth of players will cost us eventually.

Oh the highlights of spark sport is shocking... they show lots of singles, miss the dismissals and sometimes some good hits. Someone from baseball putting together the highlights I guess, if the ball hits the bat it has to make the highlights.

On Ben Sears, hard to tell how he bowled. He bowled heavy balls on a length. Some flew over keeper and some from the toe end of the bat. There is no speed gun so very hard to figure what his bowling was like. He bowled straight and heavy would define it I guess.

Istr I heard NL has 3 courts with grass wickets now (Amstelveen, Voorburg and Utrecht)

edit: four, Rotterdam too
