Tate will obviously be picked, if for no other reason our wingers stocks are a bit low, the fact he played in the test match just seals the deal...

I dont no why Hunts going to be picked tbh Bowen is the form Fullback of the comp tbh
Because mate, Bowen gets treated like a rag doll in Origin. Every time he returns a kick he gets driven back. He's hasn't, in the past, been great under the high ball either. You need, as a general rule, big backs in Origin. Slater and Bowen have both been shown up in Origin - the experiment with those guys has been done to death and it would be an unnecessary, retrogressive step to go back to either of them, unless there were injuries.

Mini stitched up his spot today with an absolute pearler of a game against the Titans.

Top player, top bloke.

Anyway, can't fathom the calls for Mullen to debut next week.

Warren Smith has transferred his obsession with Johns, totally over to Johns' replacement.

The way he was going on about Mullen in commentary, you'd think he was a 10 year veteran.

How's Tim Smith been going this year? Had a dodgy 2006, but he looked like Origin potential in 2005. Great kicking game.

So annoying Sky have lost the NRL rights this year... :@

Smith is playing slightly better than last year but still not that well, if it wasnt for his 05 performances where he showed how good he can be he'd be in the reggies now for sure...

Haha, a backward step to choose Slater or Bowen....you make it sound like they're 30+, in which case i'd agree with you, but they're not, in which case i don't agree. At 24 & 25 both players have 3/4 years experience on Hunt, and both are in far better form. Slater has hardly been shown up at Origin Level, and on current form he's streets ahead of Hunt. If Slater doesn't get at least a spot on the wing it'll be an injustice afaic. Bowen may be small, but this year he's pretty much done everything everyone has said he can't do because of his size etc, i'd also select him ahead of Hunt at a moments notice.

Not a backward step in age, more in size. We need Hunt's robustness at the back. And it's not like his form has been terrible. Slater will get a wing spot, and Hunt will be Fullback.

Mate, I mean backward step in the sense that they've been tried before and they've been discarded. In the Origin arena, size does matter in the backs. Fact is, Bowen was in the same electrifying form last year, as what he is this year - and we know what happened to him when he got picked last year. With a backline featuring Inglis, Hodges, Lockyer and Thurston we'll be able to score enough points.

Therefore, we don't need defensive liabilities like Slater and Bowen. By contrast, Hunt is a good defender and is safe under the high ball. In the end, we've won ONE series in the last five years. I'd rather at least give those guys a chance to re-produce the same as last year than go back to players who have been shown up at Origin level in previous appearances.

doesnt matter, he hit him in the head with his shoulder, 1 week minimum which will be enough to see him miss Game 1

Something like that always happens to Queensland before Origin. There's always a heart-break story. Oh well, Mick Crocker will just have to fire up twice as much next week!
