**Official** 2005 Lions tour of New Zealand

Its been interesting reading all the British & Irish journalists and who they believe would make the current AB's team.

Generally all of them pick O'Driscoll which is fair enough I think but then they start picking players like Stephen Jones, Josh Lewsey & an in form Jason Robinson lol.

Lewsey wouldn't even make a 30 man AB's squad & even an inform Jason Robinson (which i've only ever seen against Italy, Scotland and the like) would probably be struggling to make the Southland side.

Wilkinson would also be struggling IMO.

Dan Carter is in another league to Wilkinson who is over rated massively. He had the chance to back up his reputation on this tour and went missing. Lewsey would be behind Muliaina, McDonald and Anesi IMO

Wilkinson is definately not overrated...as far as kicking & defence goes, he's very good.
Although I think as a play-maker he offers very little.
But back in 2003, he played superbly and he deserved his accolades.

But in the current NZ team, his style of play would not be suitable and so he'd be well down the order.

The Wilkinson of 2003 probably wasn't even as good as Carter is now. Carter's game is more complete. The 2005 version isn't close, I'm afraid. 2 years of injuries have really taken their toll.

I really hope Jonny can come again, but seeing him clutch his shoulder leaving the pitch doesn't bode well. It's awful to say it, but we may already have seen the best of him at only 26. :(

Carter is pretty much good at everything.

Watch for Matt Giteau (Australia) this season because I think he's very similar.

Auckland have been very dissapointing. Jerome Kaino is on the bench???? What's that about?

Not sure - I don't think Graham Henry was too thrilled with that selection by Pat Lam either.

Im not convinced about Pat Lam as a coach fullstop. I don't think he'll be around for next years NPC.

Jeez, I hope the AB's don't pick Tasesa Lavea in the near future.

No chance.. He does some very good things but tries to control the game with his kicking and distrubute too much like he's playing league. He should go back to league IMO because he is going nowhere in union.

A question- Ronan O'Gara = Worlds boringest rugby player?

O'Gara is a brilliant tactical kicker..but thats where it ends.

Haha yeah.. With all the support staff and coaches they brought out here you think one of them could teach him how to tackle

Larkham or Carter?

Better pivot?

Carter is the better kicker, but for all round ability in setting up his outside backs, kowledge of the game, and running game, Larkham is my first choice no. 10.

Anyone else?

Auckland was pretty below par tonight. Shocking number of errors, mistakes, dropped passes, knock forwards.. poor line outs . Matt Dawson even won a turnover at a scrum !!

I think Matt Dawson may get picked for the final Test.

I was also disappointed by the amount of rough play and punch ups between the 2 Teams. Auckland I think was lucky that some of the players got a lenient look from the Ref and the Lions got penalised everytime there was a punch up !!

Why? Peel was one of the Lions' best on Saturday, along with Easterby.

I'm not, but it's young Daniel by several miles. Only facets of Larkham's game that're stronger are his defense & (arguably) his pass.

Carter's faster, better kicker from hand, better place kicker & has a better eye for the half-gap.
