There was evident gap between bat and ball in every replay. Just because the camera angles cut it to the bottom of the screen, I guess Illingworth decided it was not worth pursuing. Its what Rahul was saying to either the square leg umpire or the Aussie players as the replays were being played.

Okay having now seen it I think he's hit it but I do not think there is enough evidence to overturn as there's never a clear angle with the ball by the edge at any point during the initial process (unless I've missed one they used). I have no idea why they chose those two angles to match up to create the Snicko view, wtf - but I don't see how that sound could be anything other than bat on ball as on the front on replay it appears to come before he hits his pad.

I do think Snicko is an excellent piece of technology but there is a certain lack of transparency regarding how it works - compared to, say, Hawkeye, which has been scrutinised to the moon and back - that really does need to be addressed at some point. It is abundantly clear to me, as it should be to anyone with any knowledge of signals processing, that a lot of filtering and assorted DSP is going on and we really should be told exactly what - just how "sanitised" is the waveform we (and more to the point, the umpire) sees on screen compared to what the microphone actually hears? How much information is being thrown away and what determines what is kept and amplified vs what is filtered out?

Haha yeah like 90% of viewers think its the literal raw audio.

The could have made things a lot clearer with an off side angle, which I'm pretty sure has been done in the past, and playing it through so we can see if there was a second noise after the first.

Here it was on the angle, so still difficult to tell whether it was close enough to the bat or not.

I thought India would regret choosing to bat first with their inexperienced top order and a cooked Kohli and at 51/4 that has proven to be the case.

Rahul looked the best of the Indian batsmen and he was unlucky to be given out on a dodgy review call, if he was still there it wouldn't look so bad.
