ROOT LBWs STAT ALERT:
That was the 11th time in his last 16 Tests (30 dismissals) that Root has been out LBW.
Previously, in 45 Tests, he'd been LBW just 7 times out of 71 dismissals.

perhaps rooty should take a look at TPC's technique
He'd just walk across and get pinned. If you want top copy Smith or someone like Amla, you need to get to a point where you can probably play bowlers off your pads with a stump.

He just needs to fix his head position and the rest follows.

I think Root cares about the aesthetics of the game and the beauty of cricket to the audience too much to look at changing to the robot technique. Worth noting that the health and state of test cricket are being debated at the moment and despite his success, Smith's batting, demeanour, voice and face could be harming the sport in the bigger picture.

That being said, as an England fan, we could use someone making his runs at the moment.
When you hate a bloke you’ll hate him for every stupid thing you can think of.

Massive job here for the next two wickets, got to get us 100 runs to give us any hope of getting out of Brisbane with a win. Ali, Bairstow, Woakes, time to stand up fellas, you’ve got the ability, show us you have the temperament to give England a chance of going 1-0 up. Realistically I reckon we need at least a 250 lead.

Excellent way to play the short ball on display by Moeen there. Just stand there serenely and pray to Allah you survive.
If you don't play at the short ball you don't get out. In Ali's case he isn't a great hooker and puller so it definitely is the way for him to go.

They already have stood up before in their defence

But yeah this was exactly the problem everyone expected

De Kock and Warner's a good start. Shakib has an argument. Maybe Darren Bravo too.
Yep. Since Sanga and Hussey retired there has been a lack of 'worldy' left handers.

Out of that list, Warner probably edges it due to his test record and the possible added bonus of being allowed to take ritalin when he is batting.

If Chappelli's going to talk about Andy Roberts bowling bouncers they could do worse than to show the footage of Roberts dismissing him and Greg off consecutive balls.

Boycott has already mentioned Michael Holding about 3 times this test match. Only has to mention him twice more to reach is average of 5 mentions per test.

People criticise Moeen opening in the UAE way too much. Heard minimal objections to the idea at the time as well.
