You could also argue that English rugby is boring, but at the moment you can't really criticise them because they are winning.
I'd defy anyone to define them as boring also.

What is this based on Tim?

If you look at Italian defences they have very strong backlines. Some English sides have **** all at the back.

****ty English defences generally mean more open play and more goals. While the strong Italian defence mean that play is more boring as attackers generally have less space to attack in and the game generally slows down a lot more...IMO

Also, the English **** me off so much. They infringe so much around the ruck, its not funny. I hate England so much. I can't wait for NZ to beat them in the final of the World Cup...

I don't really want to get into another slagging match about the rugby, but the English are the best at killing the ball..and you know that has the right mixture for a whistle-blown, slow paced affair.

Marc, you may not think England play boring rugby and to be honest if they're winning then I don't see a problem but there is a different philosophy down under and that is to get it out to the backs as quickly as possible.

Nibblet mate..you need to be very careful.

Well nobody has brought up the Arsenal v Man Utd issue.

What does everyone think of this? What punishments should be handed out??

Personally I think all the Arsenal fans have missed the point. They say Van Nistelrooy is a cheat and make out this is an excuse for violence on the pitch, but apparently the intention (ie kicking out) is a bookable offence, and the referee sent Viera off not because he thought he kicked Van Nistelrooy, but because he tried to.

As I say, either way that is no excuse for the scenes we saw which truly were disgraceful. I read a comment from one Arsenal fan who said his two kids were die hard supporters but he'd never let them go to Highbury again!

Lots of players (inlcuding Giggs and Ronaldo) have been charged with various offences, yet players also got off lightly. Lauren was issued 4 charges but wasn't reprimanded for grabbing Phil Neville by the THROAT (!), and Ray Parlour I think got two charges, but this didn't include him hitting Van Nistelrooy after the final whistle.

Personally I'm not sure about deducting points but Arsenal need to be hit hard with a fine and heavy suspensions IMO. This behaviour has to be stamped down on now, and the way to do this is to make an example of them and come down hard.

On a side note, Sol Campbell has accused the FA of banning him for 4 games last season to hand Man Utd the title! I think he should be punished for this also, as you can't have senior England internationals undermining the authority of the FA by suggesting they are bias in favour of any one team.

Lastly, I would like to see Arsenal thrown out of the football league.

sorry tim. I'm just very passioniate about my sport and sometimes my hatred of certain teams/countries gets the better of me. In the future I'll keep it to myself...

Did you watch the Arsenal v Inter Milan game? That was one of the most entertaining first halfs I have ever seen from Inter and in soccer in general. The second half was pretty good.

I know it's the wrong thread Tim, but only one game in ages have England played a boring game, the rest of the time they play good rugby.

as an Arsenal supporter I was disgusted by the behaviour shown in the game at Old Trafford. I support the refs decision re Vierra, and will also support the FA's decision regarding penalties to both the Arsenal club and the players involved.

However kicking them out of the EPL is neither appropriate nor realistic. While Arsenal do have issues regarding discipline on the field, they are under the spotlight somewhat and tend to be targeted. Keane & Van N are no angels, neither are the likes of Gerrard, Le Seaux, Bowyer etc.

There has been a confrontational history between these 2 clubs for some time, but more so since Vierra arrived to challenge Keane as one of the toughest midfielders in the game. Utd were used to getting their own way with intimidation on the pitch, and now Arsenal does not take a step back.

However now either Utd are playing it smarter &/or the Arsenal players are being very stupid and are getting in trouble for retaliation, which is a big no no, as it takes the ref out of the game by challenging his control of the game, and as such is viewed as a more serious offence than most of the original infringements!

most significant result overnight being Arsenal's away win at Liverpool, despite being over run for the first 30 mins of the game.

Arsenal come back from 1-0 down to win it 2-1, despite failing to impress as a whole.

after a week off for Euro qualifyers we are back in business.....

Utd win at Leeds to stay 1 point behind Arsenal, who win 2-1 at home over Chelski (thanks to a Cuducini clanger), and remain the only unbeaten team in the EPL.

Liverpool loose (again), and are now 12 points off the pace!

Arsenal 23, Man U 22, Chelsea 20,
then there is a gap opening up with 3 teams on 15 pts, although 2 of these are yet to play tonight, then a further gap to another bunch on 12 & 11 points including Liverpool.

Next week sees the return of the ECL rounds midweek.

Arsenal still winning & a point in front despite not playing that well, and are now into the suspensions of players regarding the incident at Man U.

Big match this weekend with 2nd & 3rd squaring off......

interesting article in the local rag a couple of weeks ago now suggesting that another of the new Russian oil barons was interested in putting money into Arsenal by paying for their new stadium - heard nothing more tho'......

Abramovic is flying 400 of his mates over for the Manure game - they're stopping in the Hotel and watching from executive boxes.

Cost of £600,000.

Well, the Premiership has become much of a three horse race, but perhaps that can change after this round:

Henrik Pedersen's second goal against Chelsea was quite nice - ran thirty metres down the left wing, then cut into the box and shot from a tight angle. Was lucky though :)

I think Chelsea are just seeing the start a poor run of form now. Teams like Leeds and Bolton have found a way to exploit their weaknesses, and it should be interesting to see if the top teams can do the same come March.

Then again, Arsenal lost against Leicester, so the same argument could perhaps apply to them?

With there being
a) so many Chelsea fans amongst CW members
and
b) so many CW members who think that Emile Heskey is rubbish

I should just like to say that his performance in the first half for Liverpool at Chelski tonight has been utterly stunning.

(no, I don't support Liverpool, but I do think that Heskey is a superb target-man)
