Arsenal seem to have started this season much the same as last year - scoring well and carving up the opposition. They still seem to be unable to match Man Utd's conversion rate of chances in front of goal, however they continue to create more chances than the rest.

Against M'bro' last weekend it was 3-0 after 21 mins!!!! They added the 4th early in the 2nd half and then went into cruise mode for the remainder of the game.

The first goal came after Schwarzer could only parry a Ljungberg cross goal shot into the path of Henry, who slotted home into the empty net.
The 2nd came after a length of the field move saw Pires deliver a pin point cross from the left, into the path of the arriving Gilberto to volley home from just inside the penalty area.
The 3rd was made in France with Henry making a teasing run into the left of the box, b4 delicately flicking the ball to Wiltord in the middle of the 6 yard box to side foot volley home.
The Boro defenders were seemingly mesmerised by Henry as there were 4 defenders in and around the 6 yd box as well as the keeper, with Henry & Wiltord the only attackers and Wiltord was in front of goal just outside the 6 yd box!!!
The 4th came after a Ljungberg run into the right of the box, drew the 'keeper and passed to an unmarked Wiltord in front of the open goal - classic!!!

Absolutely beautiful attacking football to watch and savor.

Liverpool appear to be but a shadow of the team that fought those memorable games v Newcastle over the past couple of seasons!!!!!

Against Chelsea they were dominated across the park and showed little threat up front. They lacked depth in their attack with their strikers being square across the front, and no support from their midfield who were often back near the half way!!!!

It looked like Djouf & Kewell were playing down the flanks with Owen thru the centre. IMO Owen is at his best when either given the ball early to use his pace running at a defence, or a shot ball to his feet around the box - he is a 'poacher' with pace, rather than a target man up the middle.

Gerrard has some serious disciplinary problems and must be lucky not to have been marched already. He has a habit of jumping in with 2 footed tackles - something Vierra used to be marched for a couple of seasons ago. Gerrard did the same thing in last years Charity Shield V Arsenal and got away with it, and again already this season.

IMO a jumping 2 footed tackle is always worse than a sliding 'studs-up', because of the weight and angles - and there is no way you can perform the tackle and gain / control the ball - it's function is to 'stop' the opposition player!!!!!

I watched every minute of the Man Utd - Wolves came and how poor to did Manchester United play? I felt they lacked urgency after their blistering start in the first 10 minutes, they had plenty of chances, but they just didnt get going.

Had Henri Camera been on target, Wolves would have won and probably deserved to.

Liverpool are sooo overrated its not funny...I mean Kewell was meant to be the answer to their European woes but so far he's done squat for them.

Mr. Abramovich is awesome. Nearly 100 pounds so far and no sign of the spending stopping. I remember Mahhumad al Fayed saying he would make Fulham a mighty club, but it looks like his interest in the team is dwindling and he may soon sell. But Roman said he would turn Chelsea into a mighty club and thats what he is doing.

yay!

I wouldn't say Manure are that good. Van Nistelrooy misses a hell of a lot of chances, and only has this great record because the team get so many penalties compared with the rest.

Kewell is yet to be played in his right position (the left wing) - until Houllier sorts that out, he's not going to perform as well as he could!

He's also shocked at playing in a team that isn't losing 2 players a week to cover their debts!

Those were more than a couple of seasons ago - Collymore was there for a start!

And I was at school which puts the dates at pre '99. Probably from '96 onwards.

Man U get more penalties do they Marc? Are you suggesting this is not deserved though? I get the impression you are. Shame we didn't get one against Newcastle, and that when Giggsy was hacked down whilst clean through, no action was taken.

sure ManU miss plenty of chances - everyone does, but IMO their conversion rate is higher then Arsenal's - they have a reputation for not taking their foot off your throat and being more cynical in their execution of their opponents throughout a match.

Arsenal would create more chances but do so in the first half, score a couple and then go int cruise mode, whereas Utd keep at you throughout. A sign of this was that Utd would have more 'big wins' so far as goal scoring went than Arsenal.

I think this was part of the reason behind Henry's 'fox in the box' comments following Owen's FA Cup victory, and the subsequent purchase of Jeffers.
