NZ v England (1st Test - Day Two)

England - 261

G.Park - 128no
M.Vaughan - 51
S.Bond - 4/53
M.Mason - 3/86

New Zealand - 272/8

J.Ryder - 67
C.McMillan - 41
L.Plunkett - 4/60
C.Tremlett - 3/67

England keeper Gary Park got solid support from the tail to see his side through to a respectable 261.

With conditions still conducive to the seamers, our batsmen found life just as tough.
Chris Tremlett evened up the batting odds for the rest of the test with a nasty ball that smashed into Jesse Ryder's helmet, forcing him to retire hurt. As Vaughan is out of the match for the visitors, Ryder is out for us.

The test is very much in the balance.

England - 261

M.Mason - 3/86

New Zealand - 310

J.Ryder - 67

L.Plunkett - 4/60
C.Tremlett - 4/86

England - 296/1

A.Strauss - 172no
K.Pietersen - 94

Mason and Tuffey batted on to add a valuable 73 runs for the final wicket and give us what looked like a handy 49 run lead.
However the ease with which they batted was an indication that we were now entering the best batting conditions of the test, and boy did England show some bulldog spirit to take full advantage! :-O
Strauss and Pietersen put on an opening stand of 270 before Pietersen fell just sort of a century.
Now we're under the cosh! Cricket can be so unpredictable.

England continued on their merry way on Day 4, amassing a huge total before declaring, setting us 451 to win.
A real struggle on our hands on the final day to avoid defeat.
And all this after England were 50/5 on Day 1!

Nice read Graham. Just like to say I had a lot of trouble with Bangladesh when I played India in ICC 2006 too. We had Kumble and Harbhajan and Chawla, so we won the test series comfortably, but they beat us in the first ODI, before we managed to sneak in 2 last over wins in the last 2 ODIs to salvage pride. Their spinners are mean operators.

Win to England by 157 runs

Too many of our batsmen are getting starts and failing to carry on to get big scores. This is what cost us again. :(

One enforced change to each team for the second test.
For England, Alistair Cook moves up the order to partner Strauss in the opening role, with aul Collingwood coming into the side.
For NZ, Chris Nevin comes in to keep, enabling Tim Weston to concentrate on his batting.

NZ v England (2nd Test - Day One - NZ makes a positive start)

S.Fleming - 168no
L.Vincent - 65
T.Weston - 54
C.Tremlett - 3/74

Being put into bat under similar conditions to those England faced in the first test, we were determined to take a positive approach.
Led by Stephen Fleming, playing his last test for NZ, we piled on a big score.
Fleming's unbeaten 168 will be an innings to tresure from those spectators present.

Fleming was able to complete his double century on the second morning as we went past 400.
England were in trouble at 84/4, but Bell and Flintoff have crafted a fine unbeaten fifth wicket partnership to keep England hanging in there.

Bell and Flintoff batted England into a promising position on the third morning, but all their good work was undone when the new ball saw the last five wickets fall for seven runs! :)
With a first innings lead of 80 runs, it was important that we got off to a good start in our second innings, and with Fleming again leading the way, the home fans were not to be disappointed!
Fleming looked on track for centuries in each innings of his farewell test, but was cruelly caught short racing through for a second run.
With an overall lead of 297 runs going into Day Four, we'll be looking to set a target of 400+ and leave ourselves plenty of time to bowl the Englishmen out.

OK, I know the database researchers in ICC are awful and underpaid, but they could at least have removed dead players. :@

Good game against England though. (Judging by the second innings of the previous game, you might need a little bit more than 400!)

I didn't realise that Q.Islam was dead. What happened to him? :-O

I'd have renamed him at the start if I'd known.

With rain taking out a full session on Day 4, we ended up setting England 401 to chase.
The last day should be interesting! :p

Win to NZ by 142 runs

Three English batsmen got themselves established, but with a pitch taking uneven bounce and cloudy overhead conditions, all the NZ bowlers needed to do was to bowl accurately and success would come their way.
Victory arrived shortly after tea.
The test series levelled at 1-1.
