Nick Greenwood scored another ton in the one day final in Wellington club cricket this weekend (100 off 87). As I said earlier, he's in good club form but he's barely bought a run in the Super Smash. Maybe just not good enough in the way some players fail to make the step up from FC to Test, he's failing to make the step up from dominating club to domestix.

In the OD club stuff, he's scored 18,4, 88, 100*, 5, 100 with 2 no results and 4 that he didn't play in. Perhaps a little feast-or-famine?

Opening the batting in Super Smash is probably quite a step up, all the attacks have either current or fringe Black Caps. A number of other openers have struggled.

Speaking of club cricket I watched a guy get a ton for Onslow yesterday in the Hazlett Trophy final. It turns out he's an overseas pro who plays for Kent. It reminded me the Super Smash used to feature various overseas players (Tait, Lee, Hodge, Tom Curran) did NZC stop that or is it just the teams decided not to recruit them anymore? This 2015 article suggested the loss of the Champions League may reduce the incentive for imports although at that point NZ still had Hussey, Jayawardene and others.

Although the truly big name players will bring punters through the gates and create a lot of goodwill and a great environment for the young domestic up-and-comers, the progression of some youngsters can be blocked by unproductive imports.

I think the last one of note must've been what, Chris Jordan with ND? The season before, a post-Bristol Stokes with Canterbury (though he played a bit of FT as well) & a then-uncapped Sam Curran with Auckland.

I think a while back, NZC must've discouraged the sides to recruit imports. Of course, with the T20 league system of today it may not be realistic to sign them. With that said, apparently NZC encourages the women's sides to sign up overseas players.

Only competitive in a T20 Match that one. Would steal a game or maybe 2 in a 5 match series. You'd be relying on Conway, foxcroft and Glenn Phillips just going hell for leather to chase down or set a competitive total.

I would say column a and column b.

SAT20 and Big Bash would pull any high profile names that aren't on international tours and looking to play, so then it's a choice for domestic teams to choose a 3rd choice international ahead of a potentially up and coming youngster (lol in NZ that's 31).

Otago should look into it though imo
