NZ domestic season 2023/24

Mitchell is hitting a wall?
A point we'll made is a point over-egged.

Gotta throw in Mitchell and Conway for the point to have some pizzazz, and emphasize the cartel of 32 year olds self-running this team ...

The commentators have been banging on about burnout for Mitchell so I think they've heard something behind the scenes.

Foulkes six off Lockie was ***c and his around the wicket outswinger to the left hander was like a mini-Broad.

I take it this is from player mic?

Nice info. To blow my own trumpet, I have thought he had a high release point. Took notice of that when trying to understand 2 of his PS wickets earlier this season taken with rip-snorting chin scrapers.
Yeah, that was from Latham on player mic while keeping. He initially just said he bowls a heavy ball and the commentator (Katie Martin?) pressed him to elaborate on that which was helpful. Keepers in general might be good to hear from on stump mic on the bowling prospects.

Agree with the comments above about Allen playing a more mature innings against a largely international attack. He played well against Sears the other day too.

Thing I've noticed about O'Rourke is he bowls really well to LHers. Dunno exactly what it is because I've not watched him closely enough but it might be his wrist position or where his point of release is (probably both), is so much better as opposed to RHers where everything seems to tilt and doesn't have the ability to get it to stand up or hold its line as much. I'm picking Australia A had quite a few LHers?

If he can fix that, which he looks like a keen lad, I'm still all in on his talent

Just as impressive was a pull shot off Lockie the same over - didn't middle it but showed he sees it early and isn't afraid at 21 to take on the big boys. Love the cut of this guy's gib (jib?). He goes straight in the SteveNZ XI

If 'make up' is a thing we care about in cricketers, then I reckon Foulkes should be pretty high in that regard. His old man played quite a bit of top level club cricket and Hawke Cup, and Zak is the middle of three brothers who are all really useful.

Zak started at Christchurch Boys' then went to StAC (for better cricket opportunities, I think) and basically never stopped performing. Still have high hopes for younger brother Robbie too. Gun batsman.

lol isn’t this exactly the sort of ‘went to the right schools and knows other cricket people’ old boys club stuff that we should be at least pretending to not do

Off to McLean Park for today’s game … haven’t been before and everyone online seems to be saying it’s complete **** recently, but I’m looking forward to it. Even get a bit of play under lights with the women’s game, so it should be good!

Have checked off Pukekura Park and Fitzherbert Park the last few summers, so this is another Super Smash destination unlocked.

Was more meaning he's been very cricket motivated and has worked hard to get where he is. Chose to shift schools to further his cricket, even though his brothers were still attending the other one.

It struck me, at least, as not the usual 'old boys club' route because he felt he could go further by leaving a school that's pretty renowned for producing cricketers and has proved himself right thus far.

Unless he was an extremely wealthy teenager he didn't choose to shift schools; he persuaded his parent/s to pay for him to go to STAC. It may have been his preference, but probably their choice and finances.

Anyway, good luck to him. Looks a very useful player, especially considering his age.

Was probably a scholarship tbh.

Nitpicking yeah…but 9 balls into this game, Sumo has already misidentified an obvious slower ball by Hazeldine as ‘keeping low’ and then claimed that a dead straight ball by Lockrose ‘spun the other way’, presumably implying it was a doosra. He’s just really bad at observing and identifying what is happening, which is a big problem for a lead commentator.
He just called short fine leg 'a fly slip position' too, right after correctly calling it short fine leg.

Sumo calling Muhammad Abbas ‘Mo’ - hoping that’s actually his nickname and not just Stevenson being an idiot.

Interesting! It's Muhammad everywhere else I've seen it - including the graphics on the broadcast.
Yeah I think he prefers it with a U but that site (cricketarchive I think) is definitely good evidence he's referred to as Mo anyway. Getting the spelling of his full name wrong would be one thing, but he wouldn't be listed as Mo specifically if no-one called him that.

Interestingly the other Mxhammad Abbas is referred to as Mohammad everywhere except the Twitter account he created.
