NZ domestic season 2023/24

3 and half weeks into the super smash, at the moment.

Teams have played 5 games each. Half way through.

Man it draaaaags.

Professional cricketers playing 100 overs of cricket (max) over 26 days, so far.

I mean, I do watch it, now it is on TVNZ. It's a valid comp, it is just too dragged out. (I do skip the tiny grounds matches, though)

I'm that cricket starved. While I have watched plenty of Super Smash (by my standards) I've consumed about 5 x as much cricket during this summer wqatching old 80s and 90s stuff on YT for free. Even reverted back to a dodgy stream to watch some of the tests from Aus and SA.

Could have some days with 2 games a day, get it finished a week or 2 earlier. Get in a round or 2 of Plunket Shield before the tests so we are actually mildly prepared for a change.

From a practical/accountnat POV. I do realise that with the womens SS also televised, it is actually already 2 games a day televised. So, it is perfect from a content-per-day POV for the broadcaster.

I'm just soo ****ing bored.

By the time the tests actually roll around. I'll probably be burnt out after having watched Phil Simmons roll through the Aussies on an SCG sticky for the third time already this summer.

Now would be the best time to be at a ground or couch for 5 days absorbing some test cricket but no it's going to be on in the background (maybe) while I work 3 out of 5 days

Wouldn't mind catching a PS game either, but oh well

The Volts with GP is a completely diffierent team to without him. Allows Foxcroft to play the ith confidence and anchor the innings. Hopefully we will still have Phillips for another game.
Phillips really showed his class - not even Santner escaped punishment at the end. Good for Foxcroft too as you say - he usually has to carry the batting.

Learnings from Paul Allison: Latham sprinted around from wicketkeeper, at the same moment time-travelling back from 90 minutes in the future, to take a catch of his teammate Bowes at extra cover.

This has been one of the better innings I've seen from Allen. Looked out of touch early on, wasn't really timing anything but ticked it over for a bit and then got going when Sodhi sent down a few pies. Nice to see him give himself a chance to do that rather than trying to smash his way into form.

Canterbury's catching properly awful today in the meantime

I think Foulkes might be the best young bowler in New Zealand right now. He’s improved a heap in just a short amount of time. Which is kind of crazy because he see’s himself as a batsman first.

Big time talent hopefully both facets of his game continue to grow and he has a potentially long and successful international career

Latham on Foulkes: bowls a heavy ball, not overly tall but has a high release point.
I take it this is from player mic?

Nice info. To blow my own trumpet, I have thought he had a high release point. Took notice of that when trying to understand 2 of his PS wickets earlier this season taken with rip-snorting chin scrapers.

Snap.

Was thinking this. Turned it on when ge had 16 off 20 balls, raised my eyebrows. When on about 30 or 40 balls put the door down. Like a real batsman.

That 6 from length ball by ORourke was something else.

Mitchell is out of touch
Conway, Mitchell, Latham, Nicholls are all hitting a wall at the same time. All 32 now at then end of their (on average) peak years for batsmen (28 to 32).

We are on board the transition bus, on this forum. But it staring us in the face. The weakest of those 4 needs to be phased out fir the next generation. Now.

Mitchell is hitting a wall? Controversial for a guy who scored 134 in a World Cup semi less than a couple of months ago...I'd want to see more failures than this to declare such a thing

I really like the look of Foulkes as well, bowling looks sharp and he looked like he had time v Ferguson with the bat. Big prospect

In a direct comparison between him and O'Rourke today, he seemed streets ahead imo. Although Henry was a class above.

Shoutout to Ferns who is a very capable bowler imho

He also played a god awful shot on 20 off Sodhi that Rae should've caught. Some good stuff, but there's still moments of absolute madness and inability to choose the right shot for the right ball

I think Conway and Mitchell are overworked - which makes it bizarre that NZC said Ravindra wasn't in the Pakistan squad because of workload.

Latham and Nicholls have hit their ceiling like a slowing deflating party balloon
